Just wanted to give you feedback on today's article, "Ethiopian leader very present 6 months after death" 1. The reporter of the article, Kirubeal, works for the ruling party [though he is writing as AP reporter]. 2. Ethiopia is a one-party state [similar to Cuba] and no independent press is allowed. Several prominent journalists are in jail on trumped up charges of terrorism because they wrote articles critical of the government [such as why the deceased Prime Minister and his comrades remained in power for 21 years and that it is high time changes are made to allow others to participate in their nation's affairs]. 3.The "ever present-ness" of the deceased Meles is NOT because the people love him; it is because of orders from the ruling party. The reason is the only party in power for 21 years only had one leader and on his death none could take his place without others fighting for it. "Extending" the deceased prime minister's life is a guard against such a fallout. In other words, the idea that there was a "peaceful transition" is inaccurate and designed to mislead. 4.American people are too generous but also too naive and disinterested in what happens out there. But they need to learn fast to follow-up on what actually happens to the hundreds of millions of their hard-earned tax money. Ethiopia receives 3 billion dollars of American aid every single year. Was this generous gift for sustaining one-party, no-opposition corrupt dictatorial regime? Or to help people reclaim their God-given rights to express their views without fear and demand accountability and transparency from their rulers? Why aren't Ethiopians allowed to use Facebook or why is Internet connectivity the lowest in Africa? Why are emails and telephones constantly monitored and the Voice America broadcasts jammed? Why couldn't independent investigative journalists allowed to go in unattended and report to the American people where their money is going and why ruling party members steal and are never brought before a court of justice? I am currently traveling and wanted to use the opportunity to speak my mind before going back home. Thanks for your kindness.
