More than a week after Hurricane Sandy left Long Beach in the dark, the Long Island Power Authority has restored about 40 percent of the city's power, city officials announced on Friday afternoon, though many homeowners who are still powerless continue to express frustration with the utility company.
Anyone have pictures of 500 east olive store?61
Good Luck on/in Long Island.
LIPA operated/managed partly by foreigners(the British and National Grid). LIPA recent failed preparedness report. LIPA admitted it botched tree trimming.
How the heck did foreign entities get an interest in US infrastructure?
GOOD LUCK! Hang in there.
2 weeks later and still no water, sewerage, power, and destruction everywhere yo look.
Homes and business's destroyed and no help fr FEMA or Obama.
This is Obama's Katrina and no one is blaming him..... Why?
Totally agree about Katrina - it seems like no knows what's going on in LB. Is there any media there? Anyone have links to pics of the destruction?
I'm still stunned that in an area that was affected by 9/11 and a jet crash months later that they wouldn't be much better prepared than this. I also blame the corporate run utilities who treat those utilities as a business and not an essential service. These are very old communites with old construction and infrastructure. The politicians and state regulators are as much to blame as anyone because they do business with these utilities and services on a routine basis.
That being said if they are overwhelmed that is the exact time the states should be demanding federal assistance.
I've been seeing alot of reports about the amount trash stock piling. I know in Florida after a hurricane they want people to seperate vegatation ie trees, shrubs, flowers etc from man made trash. Stuff like tree branches etc can be mulched/shredded freeing up space along with saving money.
Trash and garbage will become a problem and health issue if not taken care of. By mulching/shredding vegatation you free space and manpower for man made trash. This is something that should've been part of disaster planning. It's small but pays off in the end.
Good Luck to all affected. Hang in there!
