Ice storm hits Bali; global warming blamed

There are 7 comments on the My thoughts story from Dec 18, 2010, titled Ice storm hits Bali; global warming blamed. In it, My thoughts reports that:

An Ice Storm of Hail Hits Bali During a Mid-December Spate of Extreme Weather. Any remaining doubts that global climate change is well and truly upon us, should be swept away by news that sections of Bali's capital city of Denpasar were hit by a hail storm on Thursday afternoon, December 16, 2010.

A hail storm during the monsoon season is unusual in Bali and proves the seriousness of climate change?

Global cooling is real.

Coldest UK December in recorded history:

Oil rationing considered !

Thousands trapped on planes !

18 Dec 10 - Great swathes of Britain skidded to a halt today as the heaviest December snowfall in 30 years tightened its grip on the nation - grounding flights, closing rail links and leaving traffic at a standstill.

As temperatures plummeted to -10c (14f), the Met office issued heavy snow warnings for another 10 inches of snow for northern Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and south-west England, more sub-zero temperatures, and no let-up in the bitterly cold weather for at least a month.

As much as a foot of fresh snow is forecast for parts the South East and the Midlands.

The Arctic conditions are set to last through the Christmas and beyond.

‘This December is almost certainly going to become the coldest since records began in 1910,’ said Met Office forecaster Barry Gromett.‘It’s already a lot colder than the previous record which was set in 1981."

With heating oil - used by around two million homes, schools and hospitals - nearing ‘crisis levels’, the Government is said to be considering rationing.

All planes were grounded at London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Earlier thousands of passengers had found themselves trapped on-board their planes on the Tarmac as the airport ran out of parking spaces.

One passenger said Heathrow's Terminal 5 was "absolute chaos".

As reported in other cases of Arctic cold being driven south onto europe, US & further south, major changes have occurred previously in the Arctic. A warm front has covered most of the 18 million square mile Arctic, driving Arctic cold south onto the UK. Tho data is preliminary, it appears, not only has Arctic sea ice freezing come to an average & sharp standstill through-out the entire Arctic sea ice region, BUT there appears to be an actual DECLINE in Arctic sea ice during the last few days. That would indicate the warm front was able to vigorously move cold Arctic air down onto the UK.

It will be interesting to see if this preliminary data is correct.

The above mentioned quick increase in Arctic temperatures which seem to have actually REDUCED Arctic sea ice presently, may be like a similar Arctic warming event near the beginning of December 2009, which sent cold Arctic air south onto the US & europe.

Again, it will be interesting to see if the new preliminary data is correct & similar to the very early December 2009 Arctic sea ice loss event.

The above mentioned quick increase in Arctic temperatures, if correct, has vaulted 2010 Arctic sea ice extent from 3rd place to 1st place, for least sea ice, to the present date.
