News to the deniers... around 1.5°C [higher than today's global temperature] is the 'tipping point' at which the coldest permafrost regions begin to thaw.

"Data from the Ledyanaya Lenskaya Cave -- near the town of Lensk latitude 60°N -- in the coldest region showed that the only period when stalactite growth took place occurred about 400,000 years ago, during a period with a global temperature 1.5°C higher than today."

[there was sun for about 9 hours on February 21]

P.S. Where's Northie?

Not only caves but entire mountains(ranges?) of permafrost, glued together with cliff quartz, rock, sandstone, ice, & dirt are thawing strongly.

Collapsing lahars(mudflows) on Mt. Rainier are of concern, nearly as much as actual volcanoes. Fairly recent Mt. Rainier lahars have involved cubic footage rivaling that of Mt. St. Helens' volcanic loss in 1980! A road on Mt. Rainier that my father would often take the family, was buried by a lahar. The lahar cut loose four miles up-mountain & slide the entire 4 miles causing mountain scarring all the way.
