The percentage of loss was fairly stable until 2001 - the last year with a seasonal loss below 60%. In 2011 the loss was above 80%. This chart shows shows what's coming far sooner than forecast:

Here's an interesting series of ice concentration years for Sept. 13, since 2005.

As the years progress, the heavy ice concentrations are reducing. More importantly, the heavy ice concentrations are ever more isolated from each other with their edges vulnerable to warming that reduce the concentrations further.

Finally, is shown the year 2012 for July 25th, showing further shattering of heavy ice concentrations, EVEN TO THE NORTH POLE.

Lewis Pugh swam the North Pole in Sept. 2009.

Soon, Lewis Pugh will be able to swim the North Pole before Septembers arrive, if he chooses.

Didn't you people all say that ALL Arctic ice would be gone by 2010? Is this another example of fat Al's "moving tipping point"?

Why, no, now that you mention it. The international scientific consensus had forecasted the first Arctic sea ice disappearance by 2100...but the ice isn't cooperating, melting at triple that rate.

http://www.wunderground.com/climate/SeaIce.as...

"The prevailing view among climate scientists had been that an ice-free Arctic ocean would occur in the 2070 - 2100 time frame. The February 2007 report from the IPCC warned that without drastic changes in greenhouse gas emissions, Arctic sea ice will "almost entirely" disappear by the end of the century."

2007: Professor Wieslaw Maslowski

“Our projection of 2013 for the removal of ice in summer is not accounting for the last two minima, in 2005 and 2007,” the researcher from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, explained to the BBC.
“So given that fact, you can argue that may be our projection of 2013 is already too conservative.”

Scientists say Arctic free of ice by 2015

Scientists warn climate change is causing ice in the Canadian Arctic to melt so quickly, the region will have an ice-free season in six years(2015).

Are you saying there's not much consensus in 'the international scientific consensus' community?

Could they not find 77 out of 79 scientists to agree?

Or were they not really 'climate scientists'?

Were the 'others' funded by big oil? Got to watch those.

No comment, I'll leave that to Mr Undoubtably Spelt Fourty:
The north pole is often ice free.

The north pole was ice free in 2000 so it is nothing new.

And now, over to National Geographic:
Thursday, October 28, 2010 - North Pole May Be Ice-Free for First Time This Summer

some idiots even went on a special tour by boat to see the totally ice-free North Pole, where they got stuck in ice and had to be resued by icebreakers.

perhaps they were rooting retarded reprobates from some Injun reservation , wasting casino money?
