President Obama wants to:

1. Reduce pollution
2. Help communities prepare and plan for climate change impacts
3. Develop more sustainable sources of energy.
4. Drive down the cost of solar energy
5. Encourage more usage of natural gas and cut red tape for new domestic oil and gas production as well as develop new technology to make them cleaner.
6. Use oil and gas revenues to fund research to shift cars off of oil for good and free the American public from gasoline price spikes.
7. Cut in half the amount of wasted energy over the next 20 years.

Yes, but that is not the issue. The issue today is very similar to the situation that led to the War of the Roses. The fight is between abolute aristocracy vs parlimentary democracy or equivalents.

The absolute aristocracy (represented by Obama and an expanded government running more of the economy) can do more and has more power. But it reduces freedom of the individual and tends to put too much money in the hands of the presidency (or king).

The opposition to this are over-weened aristocrats who fight the central core of government in their own self interest (as the aristocrats fought over the kingship in the War of the Roses) as the king is weakened while the barons, earls and dukes gain more and more of the power, attacking the king to keep him weak. This role is being played today by Billionaire Capitalists who have effective control over the right wing political parties.

Similar to the English parliament (which was rarely called by the Tudor kings except to increase taxes), the current Congress is in-effective and irrelevant to the fight.

The real fight here is between the power of the (king or executive) and the power of the (inherited power or inherited money).

Those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it (with variations).

Which is 'better'? Do you want to be ruled by an absolute dictatorship? Or do you want to be ruled by a gaggle of individual totalitarians? NEITHER. But how to find a NEW way? Only a restoration or introduction (in the case of the US) of Democracy can hope to reduce the role of 'infighting' over power and increase the role of 'lean and effective government OF the people, BY the people, and FOR the people.

And THAT is what this is really about.Neither the king-emperor, nor the aristocracy want to give up THEIR power to make a better way possible. It must be demanded BY the people who must become more active in their own defense.

One more point. Rebellions against either the king or the aristocracy (or capitalist equivalents) are USUALLY 'taken over' by one side or the other, by presenting leadership and by propaganda that leads the public to 'choose sides' thus giving the win to one side or the other.

There is no purpose in revolution. It just puts one side or the other 'on top' for a while.

There has to be a complete CHANGE in the idea of government and the power must be left in the hands OF the people. This CAN be done with effective communications (ie. the internet, etc) along with a framework that prevents the rise of 'special interests' to power again.

And it can be done by civil unrest and political demands rather than guns and bullets.

But I lose faith that the eternal cycle can be broken. Too many people are willing pawns to one side or the other. In fact, they think that this is what it is about!!!

Making something affordable means the government subsidizes it.
Obama is very resourceful at finding new ways for deficit spending.
Imagine if he put all that energy into the economy and jobs.

Making something affordable means WE THE PEOPLE the real taxpayers subsidizes it. No Pres. can make jobs WE THE PEOPLE makes the jobs. WE THE PEOPLE are the Gov. the politicians are hired hands. They should be classifies as workers at will and remove them.

No. It means that workers are being paid enough to live. Or that they aren't and the government subsidizes some things to even up the scale. Or that government sets all prices. The role of government in correcting failures of the market system is multivariable.

And the billionaires are very resourceful at finding ways to avoid paying their bills. But the problem is both income and spending, not spending.

The current degraded infrastructure and support spending is a legacy of too many years of too many wealthy families working to take more and more from an economy that is shrinking as it is sucked dry. The government is a blunt instrument fighting these problems of 'special interests' and greed. But it is the only instrument that CAN do anything.
