Don't buy the hot air about global warming

Mar 10, 2013 Full story: The Indianapolis Star 16

I expect that the majority of The Star's readers will continue to take their cue from the likes of Al Gore, but our country and our world would be better served if more people would demand facts before concluding that the "hot air" blowing out of Washington has any purpose other than for enriching some and retaining power for others.

The likes of Al Gore? What happened to centuries old science that explains to Al Gore and us what is happening to our global climate by our fossil fuel usage?

This letter-writing Bob is telling us not to care about our future. He should start reading Al Gore's new book, The Future.

Don't buy the hot air that causes global warming!

Let's see what impresses deniers:

"Hurray for facts and the knowledgeable in regard to Jim Huston’s March 7 letter about the world’s climate."

Letter writer is impressed by another letter writer. Apparently less impressed with science.

"I expect that the majority of The Star’s readers will continue to take their cue from the likes of Al Gore,...."

He thinks that people are swayed by non-scientist advocates instead of by science. Perhaps a bit of projection on his part.

".... but our country and our world would be better served if more people would demand facts before concluding that the “hot air” blowing out of Washington has any purpose other than for enriching some and retaining power for others."

He thinks the political rhetoric he disagrees with is hot air but somehow exempts the political hot air from the denier Right. He sees the non-existent denier conspiracy regarding financial gain but can't see the open one that's 1000 times bigger. Confirmation bias much?

"First, it is highly arrogant for human beings to believe that they are capable of significantly affecting the natural variables of Earth."

Braindead Argument from Incredulity. If deniers didn't have fallacies, they'd have no arguments at all!

"Second, there are few if any cost -competitive alternatives to fossil fuels to power our economy."

Bra9ndead Argument from Consequences. Apparently, the science has to be wrong because he doesn't like the implications of it being right. That's denier logic for you.

"Certainly ethanol, solar and wind energy in the United States will not stop the seas from rising as the ice cap melts."

Appears to be admitting that the science is correct, but now taking the denier position "we can't stop it". The deniers have no problems with simultaneously taking multiple, mutually exclusive positions.

"Readers need to stop and think: Will it change the world’s climate if we pay extra for the fashionable “green energy” while the world’s supply of fossil fuels are consumed by China and others?"

Again, Bob Rawlings of Noblesville conflates measures to address the problem with the existence of the problem.

And roboblogger was impressed enough by this to link us all to it. It probably does impress the typicsl denier, but so does every transparently fallacious, infantile argument.

Yeah, science talkers with only erroneous political spin, without science & mathematics, even in their poorly earned hi skule DEE-plooomaas, need jailing....... & forced to pay for their jailing.

Tons of deniers have dropped out for good.

I looked up its ISP location and found a place of retirees, especially English. Different from its former mountain-hide-away.

As Fair Game knows, dirt was wrong all the time ... like ph'd is wrong always. It'll also tire .. of running to bathroom all the time.

This post from mid 2012 might have been a premonition of its demise........

"steenking piddling diddling middling mudling mudslinger dirtling" continues to be a slimy steenking filthy vile reprobate rooting(& rotting) racist pukey proud pig.
Such a descriptive title will look..... accurate on his tombstone.

Thank you. Of course, such analyses are always targeted at the open-minded third party or casually misinformed deniers. Rational people such as yourself already see the nonstop regurgitation of fallacies that is the denier argument. The adamant deniers are either too dogmatically wedded to their conclusion to process these analyses or are already knowingly deceiving the dogmatic deniers, no matter how compelling.
