Local warming: US cities in front line as sea levels rise

Feb 27, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Reuters

The signs of rising water are everywhere in this seaport city: yellow "Streets May Flood" notices are common at highway underpasses, in low-lying neighbourhoods and along the sprawling waterfront.

Yeah, as stated in another thread, my car, which was switched to larger 17 inch wheels & tires, would still have been in trouble. & my little 25 year old Ford Festiva would have been toast....... soggy toast.

Quote about the sea wall in Norfolk:

The sea wall was high enough when it was built several decades ago, but Atkinson says it may not be anymore.

"Well, you can see the brown mark there on the pumping station," he says, pointing to a place well up the wall. "That's where high tide normally is."

When Hurricane Irene went by last year, waves approached the top of the barrier, Atkinson says, adding that just about everyone in Norfolk acknowledges the problem of rising water.
