Anyone following the Akin follies? A sitting US Congressman insists that rape can't cause pregnancy. Another fine example of invented science from the Republican Party.

Ignorance on parade.

Isn't it pitiful? Republican definition of Abortion: Reproductive issue best decided by preachers from rural Georgia who believe babies are conceived by using public restrooms.

Akin's tortured reasoning:

"If I want to ban all abortions, even in cases of rape, then I must deny that rape causes pregnancy."

Who cares if science says he's wrong? Who cares that fanatics like Akin now force women by law to bear their rapist's children? He can always counter inconvenient facts by inventing his own.

This is an example of the Reich Wing understanding of science.

I prefer "right wing" myself, as that descriptor encompasses a number of friends and family members who rightfully object to being called nazis.

We have real nazis around here, so even my most conservative acquaintances look like Greenpeace turtles by comparison.

Understand. I am a life long registered Republican and I am very disappointed with the extremists who have hijacked the party. It is dangerous when folks reject the accomplishments of science for political purposes. As dangerous as when science is used for political reasons like Hitler. I am not calling these folks Nazis, just making the case that the party is being disingenuous in a very dangerous manner..

Granted, separating merely wacky conservatives from truly evil ones has gotten more challenging in recent decades. The FBI and ATF were confused enough to bumble their way into the sieges at Waco and Ruby Ridge over that, mistaking garden-variety bizarre folk for dangerous. Then, on the flip side, they later ignored true nazis such as the bastard who massacred the Wisconsin Sikhs, and the guy who attempted bombing Spokane's MLK Day parade.

Meanwhile, the Kochs and their PR people are doing their best to further blur this line, trying to rile everyone on the right around their agenda. As far as the Kochs are concerned, the more violent their minions are, the better. Very challenging.

I sure Lennin looked like a right winger from where you are.

Funny thing is the only difference between the extreme right and the extreme left is what they are being extreme about. Both groups consider everyone else to be very wrong and very foolish, that they should listen the the "enlighten" instructions being provided. That and every time they managed to put there ideas into action it turns into something bloody.

Lenin looks like a son of a bitch from where I am.

However, we haven't seen an extreme leftist movement in the US since the 1930s. Meanwhile, the right wing is killing hundreds; bombing Federal buildings,Olympic venues, obstetrics clinics; gunning down religious congregations and groups of immigrants; assassinating liberal talk show hosts and more. And some of the worst elements of these vicious, murderous bastards are being egged on with Koch Industries money--the same source that is trying to equate climate science with United Nations takeover plots, while arguing that we should spend trillions to take over more foreign oil fields.

If there is pure, unmitigated evil now afoot in America, that's it.

Instead of supporting domestic fossil fuel production, they promote hate. They ban drilling in national parks, advocate biofuel subsidies, electric cars, solar power, wind turbines, bad loans guaranteed by taxpayers, out of control government spending, demagogic arguments against the successful then act surprised when the economy tanks.

You have a weird definition of hate. I equate it more with the killing of abortion doctors, beating up homosexuals, and ignoring the plight of the unfortunates.

I agree, "killing of abortion doctors, beating up homosexuals" are hate acts. "[I]gnoring the plight of the unfortunates" isn't an act of hate, at worst it's an act of negligence. Ignoring isn't hating.

Killing the unborn can be an act of hate, if it's based on gender or race preference. Harassing and threatening those who peacefully petition to keep marriage as, those are acts of hate too.
