It may be too late to return to native grasslands now. The next 'dust bowl' is inevitable if we do not moderate AGW.

Long term, the are of desert may become extreme.

The NGP will just be the 'canary in the coal mine'. There are areas where grassland is giving way to shrubland ( with dirt between) already.
