Full story: Triple Pundit

Now that a third large utility has dropped out of the US Chamber of Commerce over its stance on climate change legislation, the question arises: is this just a passing squall or the beginning of a serious public relations brouhaha? Hmmm, could it be that these utility companies would receive greater profits from increased electric rates, etc. if this legislation passes? No wonder that they would support it - they receive a share of the benefits - it doesn't cost them anything and would push future generation in their direction [WITH more government subsidies]. It's a no lose scenario for them.

From the article:
The nuclear industry could benefit from legislation that raises fossil fuel costs, and the industry's interests are expected to be a key topic in the Senate debate. Exelon currently operates 17 nuclear reactors in the Midwest and in mid-Atlantic states. The company also uses fossil fuels, hydropower and renewable energy to generate electricity.

Sure, and good for Exelon and PG&E! The US Chamber is committing a grievous error in selling out to the coal and oil companies, coal-dependent utilities and the auto industry, endangering millions of people and our economic health in the process. Spank 'em!

We need more energy, not more control of energy production. We need cheaper electricity and fuel prices, President Obama's plan will accelerate unemployment.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Libra

Remember that life isn't all fun and games: handle your responsibilities first, then plan how to have a good time. Your impulses, once you yield to them, will have a tendency to lead you further and further from where you need to be. Make sure you lock the door behind you before disappearing; when you're in this kind of mischievous mood, you probably won't want anyone else to know where you're going.
