"Over the last four years, the deficit has gone up, but 90 percent of that is as a consequence of two wars that weren't paid for, as a consequence of tax cuts that weren't paid for, a prescription drug plan that was not paid for, and then the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

I don't know anyone who lives in the world you describe.
As to the bush tax cuts for the idle rich, yes there were cuts in taxes for the middle class. Pennies were reduced in taxes in most cases; while for some taxes did increase. The idle rich on the other hand had their taxes reduced or eliminated completely, giving them millions extra, and making sure they had no skin in the game.
Jobs were saved? No, they went away big time. Start ups are much much harder to start since bush demotivated those who could invest in them. What did bush do to kill so many businesses? It isn't the bush lie that they simply need lower taxes. They needed customers. When bush did everything he could to reduce the middle class to poverty, they slowed buying so much, thus fewer customers. What business do you know that can survive without customers? I will give you a hint, they are large republican based companies who get billions from the government. They don't have customers, they have subsidies.
Why did Obama extend the bush tax cuts for the idle rich? Same reason he passed Romney care. Same reason he extended the Pat Act. Same reason he prevented any investigation into the bush white house crimes, same reason he signed NDAA, same reason I expect him to change his political affiliation to republican before the election.
As to min wage, it needs to be at least doubled. Regulations need to be put back in place to get us out of this depression. While you may believe that the best thing for our nation is to give more of our money to the rich, I suggest we let those who earn the money keep at least some of it.
Romneycare was voted on by the people of a state, after meetins with union leaders, employers and everyday people.

Nobamacaretax was rammed down our throats through back door and closed door deals, kickbacks, promises and pork. NOT THE SAME THING, jughead.

AGAIN, we havne't got an answer yet, just another lame accusation.

We have given more of "our" money to the rich. Pelosi had wharfs repaird in SF near land her husband owns for the "Navy". The Navy no longer uses those wharfs. The wharfs will be for sale soon, and the Pelosi's are building hotels and restraunts near there. DUH.

John Murtha's son got millions in governemnt contracts.

??? This is just bizarre. The United States entered a depression, which continues today on 9/11/2001. The bush tax cuts for the idle rich made things worse, destroying jobs, eliminating start ups, monopolizing everything to avoid competition.
I don't know where you got that fantasy story, but no one I know has ever seen it. No one lives it. It is just pure fantasy.

WHAT??????????

When did the recession start? For the purposes of this discussion we can go back about 12 years to the time of the Clinton administration. President Clinton, under the advisement of his secretaries, signed several key legislation which essentially deregulated the entire banking industry sending it back to the time just before the Great Depression. Many of you, especially those who play the stock market, may remember the dot com boom of the early 21st century.

Now it had become a free for all leading to an extraordinary boom time that was based in nothing tangible. Once the tech bubble boom burst, banks minimized their losses by switching their shady investment practices to the housing markets. Since lending, investing and insuring money could now commingle without the impediment of congress, a virtual pyramid scheme was devised using the sub-prime mortgage lending markets.

The recession was caused by the demorat giveaway forced loans, AND
the tech bubble burst so did the housing market which led to the foreclosure crisis we are still hurting from. The tech industry is what your idle 'ol slick willie based his PROJECTED "surplus" on. Of course the bubble burst after China and others started copying our tech programs, computers etc and began underselling us. JUST LIKE THEY DID ON SOLYNDRA, MEATHEAD. Whe the tech bubble burst and that money didn't come in..........you lefties said Bush "squandared it!"

Mega bullshyte. You can't squander something that never existed.

DUH, DUH, DUH. Get that fkn gullible liberal ring out of your nose that they're pulling you around with. My God man, read!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a job, but can't afford food, shelter, health care and pay taxes, you don't really have a job. That is why 47% of people don't pay taxes; they don't really have jobs. That puts the real unemployment rate near 47%.

What would happen if min wage were doubled? Well, let's see. People would buy more things. More customers would be created. Businesses would do more business and they would hire more people.

If a company can only survive because it doesn't pay its employees enough to obtain food, then that company should be run out of business.

Unless you are getting paid by the idle rich to defend them, it is costing you.

Oh, I see what you are saying. You are demanding that I listen to Fox news and blindly believe everything they are saying. I should ignore everything I see and hear that doesn't conform with Rupert Murdoch's opinions as to what I should believe. Forget everyone in my family, forget my neighbors, forget my friends and everyone I have ever met so I can believe Rupert.

Maybe you should look around and see if anything you believe can be substantiated in the real world.

Romneycare and Obamacare are essentially the same thing. I don't like it no matter who passed it. It gives our money to rich insurance executives for nothing in return. You can't like one without liking the other; that is just too hypocritical.

"We" have given too much of our money to the rich. Complaining about Pelosi possibly getting rich off taxpayer dollars, doesn't excuse every other politician getting rich off taxpayers dollars. I wasn't even talking about that. I was referring to the billions of dollars straight from the treasury to large corporations like Haliburton due to lobbying. I was referring to setting up systems, like Obama care where we have to pay outrageous fees to corporations and get nothing in return.

As to Mitt making his own money, that is downright silly. Stealing someone's pension is not the same as making it. Romney hasn't worked a day in his life and doesn't even know what it means. If the laws hadn't been changed to allow him to become a corporate raider, he would have probably ended up in prison.

Notice I am not a member of any political party. I am not beholden to republicans, nor democrats. I want an open, honest, efficient government. Not one that gives itself poison pills like when the GOP passed a law requiring the Post Office to pay billions and billions for the retirement of employees who are not even born yet. Put that requirement on any other company and they would be immediately pushed out of business. Of course that is exactly the kind of situation Romney likes, he can come in, take the pensions for those not even born yet, put them in his pocket and sell of the assets to the Chinese. In fact he has made so much money for that communist country that is has recently been over there, raising money for his campaign. I bet he promised to give them even more of our money.

it doesn't make a bit of difference what party you are affiliated with: that is simply an idiotic statement. mitt romney has worked his ass off to make it where he is. he was born into a good family, but he created immense wealth on his own. he did not steal anyone's pension. bain tried to turn around companies. they were successful about 80% of the time. they created and saved many more jobs than were lost. you are either envious of his wealth or clueless.

Bull. You have no clue. The question is, why are you defending such a person?

When a person takes over a company, borrows heavily against the assets of that company to give himself a bonus, then declares bankruptcy for the company to allow himself to take the pensions of all those who worked there, then shuts down the operation and moves it to China, he is not working, he is stealing.

You might as well defend the bank robber who complains about how hard he worked to find a good get away driver; obtain a car for the get-away, find all the guns necessary, find out when the bank actually has a lot of money that can be stolen, it's a lot of work. And there is risk as well. He puts his money up to get the guns and get-away car, why should the government get involved? Don't they like small businesses? Let's get rid of the regulation saying we are not allowed to rob banks. I earned that money fair and square.

Romney's business plan at Bain used to be illegal. His operation only came into being when it was legalized to take all the people's pensions if the company was close to bankruptcy. Romney is a criminal and should be in jail.

I am not jealous of someone who stole tons of money because they are rich. Are you jealous of those who steal the work of others; or are you disgusted by them?
