Man Named Kim Adds 'Mr.' to Resume, Lands Job

There are 10 comments on the gma.yahoo.com story from Jul 15, 2013, titled Man Named Kim Adds 'Mr.' to Resume, Lands Job. In it, gma.yahoo.com reports that:

A man named Kim O'Grady says that letting employers know he was a male by using the honorific "Mr." allowed him to get a job after four months of rejections by employers who believed he was a woman.

Kim O'Grady, a management consultant in Perth, Australia, wrote about his experience in a Tumblr blog post that has gone viral, catalyzing workplace equality advocates across the world. His original blog has already been re-published online by Atlantic Media, Quartz, and AOL.

In an epilogue about his original blog post, "How I Discovered Gender Discrimination", O'Grady wrote on Sunday, "The sad reality is this shows we all know how real and invasive sexism is."

Since this is posted in the GAY FORUM, i remember reading about a woman in Australia awhile ago, who suddenly stopped receiving email. All her emails to friends and relatives went unanswered.

After complaining to her cable company, the company investigated and discovered the reason for her sudden inability to send and receive email. A recent software upgrade had caused all her email to be labelled "pornography", and was just automatically deleted.

The software had labelled all her email as "OBJECTIONABLE" because her name is Gay Hamilton (not the actress).

Interesting. I just posted this on a GAY forum. You took no time in finding it.

The NFL did the same stupid shit, not allowing a jersey to be made with an "obscene word" on the back. The "obscene word" was Gay, the name of a player.

Slightly related, I heard how one unix system was fucking up someone's scripts. Some idiot had programmed it to search for "obscene words" and block or delete files.

A key operating system script included the command "sh", then on the next line had a comment beginning with the word "It". The anal-retentive idiot was causing the entire system to fail.

I forget which of the Christian sites used to run it, but one of them had a program which automatically replaced the word gay with homosexual in the headlines and stories that they picked up for their site. They ran a lengthy article about Olympic sprinter Tyson Homosexual.

Other sites did the same crap. Some won't allow use of the word teabagger, despite the fact that the rightwingnuts were at first calling themselves teabaggers.

They said it themselves, so I continue using it to refer to them. Where's the problem? If you're a rightwingnut, it's a problem to use people's own words to describe them.

I'll never understand why some parents give their kids names that are so unusual, that anyone can see it is going to cause them trouble later on.

In my family, including all aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents, all our names are absolutely conventional, with no unusual names among them. Names like John, Richard, James, Andrew, Susan, and the like.(Ok, "Susan" is unusual because he's a boy, but that's a long story).

I've gotten flagged on this site for using, k!ck and the name of an African country containing five letters and beginning with N. I also get flagged for using variations of the three and six letter f word, even if I use it in reference to myself, even though those variations routinely show up in other posts. Posts I can't even quote in a reply without getting warned.

If I remember right, he just laughed it off, they were only really embarrassing themselves. It was one of those articles that kept referring to him either by his full name, Tyson Homosexual, or as just Homosexual over and over again.
