A Family Unmade And Made Again

A Family Unmade And Made Again

There are 6 comments on the www.thestory.org story from Mar 31, 2013, titled A Family Unmade And Made Again. In it, www.thestory.org reports that:

Producers Alex Kotlowitz and Amy Drozdowska capture the unfolding connection between a man and his adopted son. Mike Checuga was a 25- year old white guy and Victor was a 10 year old black kid. Mike adopted Victor and his family did not approve. As Victor became a young man, he drifted away from his adoptive father, and struggled on his own. A revealing and at times shocking 30 minute audio interview about a family that fought to become a "real family".

I was completely surprised by the part where the Dad finally came out when he was 40.

An excellent interview and a fantastic story.

Your sister keeps complaining that you're hung like a fourth-grader, so you've got the small part taken care of. Now all you have to do is STFU.

When they described the treatment the boy was getting at the State facility I wanted to believe stuff like that would not still be going on today. To force a child to stand with their hands interlaced like some criminal and then to allow staff to walk by and slam the child's head against the wall is not my idea of "time out". Sadly that sort of abuse seems to be pretty common.
