I would like these idiots to demonstrate what harm equal marriage rights has caused in the U.S. states that allow it.

There continued fight against equal rights for American citizens is nothing but bigotry.

And it shows that most Americans do NOT, and NEVER HAVE, believed in the equal protection of the laws for ALL Americans.

Go to the Thomas More Society web page and you'll learn all you need to know about these whackadoodles who filed to have the case dismissed...

"Attorney Peter Breen of the Thomas More Society says they are contesting the judge’s finding that the plaintiffs can argue the ban on gay marriage violates the state constitution’s equal protection and due process clauses."

Since when are people not allowed to make their argument in a court of law??? Oh, yeah. When the other side doesn't have a case, all they can do is try to keep the other side from making *their* case.

As a side note, I always get a kick of the name, "The Thomas More Society." Thomas More was beheaded by Henry VIII because Thomas wouldn't STFU about his religious beliefs and his opposition to a faith that was different than his.

So I guess the society picked a good name for itself. They should be glad we don't behead people anymore.

You mean because they're fearless when it comes to showing their ignorance, bigotry, and contempt for anyone that's not exactly like them? Yeah, lovable that.

I think it's likely this case will be moot by the end of the year.

I agree. My concern as I mentioned in a related thread is if we make all these federal cases moot, it'll take longer to get a successful case to the SCOTUS for the big ruling.

The Hawaii & Nevada cases are furthest along (at the 9th circuit already), but the Hawaii case will almost certainly be nixed as well this month; the Nevada case possibly in 2014. Ditto for the Michigan & Ohio cases in 2014 or 2016.

If we have to wait for the Virginia case which is just under way, it'll be 2020 before it get to the SCOTUS.

I read an article a bit ago which stated it could hit the Supremes as early as the 2014-15 session.

New Jersey has an election in three weeks. The legislature is not going to move in this time-frame. And there will be no final disposition from the high court that quickly, either.

I'm guessing after New Years.

I wouldn't ask these guys advice for a small claims court proceeding.

Would you want these idiots representing you?

I think he was referring to the Oct 21st date the judge set. If no stay is issued, then same-sex couples can begin marrying on that date regardless of where the appeal process is.

For the record I think a stay will be issued since it's never been denied in any case at any level so far; though there is always a first.

Ironically my concern is many of those cases won't have the CHANCE to be successful because the states will pass marriage equality before the case(s) get to the SCOTUS.
