Move to Central California or Western Washington, guys. You'll be far happier.

Washington has no income tax. Of course I don't know how their property tax and sales taxes are. They might just outweigh the no income tax part.

Not everyone can just pick up and move, but I think that many that can, will over the next few years. Waiting for true equality in a place that resists it isn't always feasible, especially when you have a family.

Most queers want to move somewhere where there are good gay sex clubs and bath houses. Or more importantly a swinging men's toilet down at the bus depot.

Those are the fantasies in your own mind Dear, posted by you with no bearing on the topic. Stop projecting them on others.

Has anyone ever noticed that in general there is a high correlation between how GLBT-friendly a city is and how it tends to rank on livability indexes that DON'T take this into account? The one negative correlation seems to be affordability of housing. Gay people tend to live in cities with high housing costs, but that is because they are nicer places to live. When a city rates high on livability and economic indices but is not gay friendly (I am thinking of Calgary here in Canada) it is often because of an economy which is not really based on creativity in either art or industry (Calgary's economy is materials-based.)

You'll pay a lot more in property taxes, sales taxes, and misc "fees" in Washington.

No income tax has to be made up elsewhere.

I always found it ridiculous that retirement magazines always recommend states with no income tax as being such a plus for retirees.

I prefer to stay and fight for my rights, especially now that we get federal recognition & benefits regardless of where we live.

All true. I've never understood people who live to avoid taxes. I suppose they have a free-loader mentality. Our Republican state government wants to get rid of income tax, but at the same time they want to raise sales taxes. Right now we are on the verge of 10% if you combine state and local taxes. And every other year property taxes rise. Of course the people don't realize that just because the government wants to drop income tax by 2%, they will make it up in sales taxes. And now they want to levy that tax on prescriptions, and I've heard talk of taxes on services, like lawyers and tax services.
