PARDON, but, regarding the Chief's statement -
Hate crimes are illegal, unacceptable, and hurt everyone in a community.-

Illegal?
Targeting gays for hate is not a crime in Virginia. Virginia's hate crimes law does not include orientation.

Unacceptable:
Virginia's Attorney General, Mr Cuccinelli, has called gays 'unnatural' and 'threats to society'. Many others have said the same, and some people - most notably preachers - have said that gays should be rounded up into walled camps, should be stoned to death, etc.

Hurt everyone?
Republicans in Virginia routinely run political campaigns on gay-bashing. They use gay-bashing to maintain political power.

Correct?

Why are gays so racist? You would think they would be the last people to put others down. When they seek love from everyone else why do they put out so much hate towards others?

"The students we talked to Sunday all agreed that UVA is overall an accepting community but they say it only takes one incident like this to threaten their sense of security."

This quote, in a nutshell, sums up the tyranny that is spreading throughout the western world.

Can we just pass a law that outlaws white people? heterosexuals? bullies? christians? townies? pick-up trucks? aggression? conflict?

My sense of other's sanity is waning.

But this is to be expected...

If they find and convict the bum who did this he should be banned all over the ocutnry from any further education.

A lifetime of collecting garbage would be a good job for him. All he has to do is look in the mirror

Isn't it funny that when anyone doesn't agree with a gay person they are labeled a redneck? Gays don't like being labeled, but they are the first to strike out on others when they don't feel like they are in control! Just listen to Satan's bung if you want to see an example.

Gays can't carry handguns, that gets the salons and gyms shot up when they see their boyfriend looking at another dude!
ACTUALLY, i changed my mind about gun restrictions after talking to many lesbians and trans folks who felt safe only with them.

But, I still believe that the public should have the right to know who has a gun in any public meetings; e.g. anyone with concealed carry should stand up and state I have gun with concealed carry permit.

Assault weapon classes? such as used in mass shootings: no, I don't see any reason for public to carry these concealed.

'Redneck' is a sign of hard outdoor work, and should be respected. In fact, most people do respect hard outdoor. The stupid use of the word is ... stupid. And, should stop.

According to the article this is only the second gay-bashing incident since 2009. That doesn't make grounds an unsafe place for gays, as it's certainly a rare occurance. No need to panic. But it is unacceptable, and I hope cops find out who did it

I live near Charlottesville and often worry about what they teach children in public schools. For example, we spend so much time teaching politically correct things like "tolerance" and other vague concepts that are really under the purview of parents.
We do not spend enough time teaching topics like, say, spelling. And we end up with folks posting words like "your" instead of "you're" and "sucede" instead of "secede." Heck, you can't even spell "Lilith" correctly.
Now, remember my fine friend, fingers on the home keys; thumbs on the space bar. Learn to spell and it will do wonders for your persuasive skills.
See you at dinner next Thursday at Rachel Maddow's house!

Just a thought, but it this day and age, I believe it would be appropriate to change the name of the group not to "include" queer, which is in and of itself a slur to gay people.

The N word and the Q word are proprietary. You must be of a group in order to use the label. You can create your own group, but it may be a while before you are established to the point where you can get testy about use of your label. Dignity and respect are often uttered in the same sentence, but they are only tenuously connected. You may or may not get respect, but your dignity is entirely yours to have or lose. Self labeling may feel clever within a group, but it won't mean much to anyone else.
