From Obama's speech at the African Nation of Senegal:
.
**********
As for Wednesday's court ruling, Obama said he's directing his administration to comb through every federal statute to quickly determine the implications of a decision that gave the nation's legally married gay couples equal federal footing with all other married Americans.
.
He said he wants to make sure that gay couples who deserve benefits under the ruling get them quickly. Obama said he personally believes that gay couples legally married in one state should retain their benefits if they move to another state that doesn't recognize gay marriage.
.
"I believe at the root of who we are as a people, as Americans, is the basic precept that we are all equal under the law," he said. "We believe in basic fairness. And what I think yesterday's ruling signifies is one more step towards ensuring that those basic principles apply to everybody."

Nine out of ten people opposing something do not make it right or logical to oppose it. This is the weak spot in popularist democracy.

And 10% of the people should never overrule the majority. USSC decided against law passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton. Read the dissent by Judge Alito and tell me that the few haven't stepped all over the many........

Indeed, pure democracy can be every bit as bad as a malevolent dictatorship. Without laws in place to protect minorties, it has been shown time and time again that the majority will trample on their human rights without a second thought.

Thanks to the genius of America's founders, all citizens are equal under the law, and the majority does NOT have the right oppress minorities.

Oh, boo hoo. If the court had ruled to your favor, you would be crowing like a rooster about how well the courts work.

Laws change, KELLY. get with it. Or, do you miss slavery and women not being allowed to vote or....

Yawn, you can whine and moan all day long. It's over and done and the law of the land.

your reply has nothing to do with the subject of barry insulting the host of a majority muslim population with his gushing adoration over gays which muslims consider as aberrations and put to death.

The 'many' have been stepping all over the 'few' since 1946 when gay people first appeared in the fundamentalist rewrite of the New Testament
.
and now the roles are reversed

Are you forgetting that Hitler took power not through a military coup but through majority vote?

Oh, go strap on some dynamite and you'll feel ever so much better. I hear that underpants bombs are FAR more comfortable than regular strap on bombs. Why not try that next time?

Just think, YOU can be a martyr and get busy with your 72 virgins and we won't have to listen to you anymore. Win WIN.

But seriously, is 72 virgins ENOUGH for eternity? I mean, you would run through that group in like a month, then what? An eternity with used up sluts? Or, since it is heaven, does their virginity grow back? I really am not at all convinced that that is such a good thing. Besides, aren't virgins TERRIBLE in bed? Wouldn't it be better to have EXPERIENCED women?

And what do WOMAN martyrs have to look forward to in heaven? 72 men? That sounds like hell for women.

He was elected through promises of returning to Christin morality, to ban those things that Christians are so afraid of. He also was elected with the financial help of Sen. Prescott Bush, grandfather to George W.

Some of you believe that since DOMA was struck down that queer marriage and federal benefits will flow throughout the land. They won't. If you are married in a state that recognizes queer marriage and one of you becomes sick, disabled or dies, the survivor will receive the same benefits a straight couple would have gotten.

If you move to a state that does not recognize queer marriage and something befalls one of you, the other is shit out of luck. They may be federal benefits, but the states play a huge part in receiving those benefits.

How many states recognize it? 12 or 13?
