Interesting development. I would anticipate a wave of constitutional amendments sweeping eastern European nations, just as they swept US states a decade ago.

But look how quickly that turned around. Indeed, the long-accepted antagonism toward gays might have quietly persisted if the constitutional amendments hadn't spurred interest in the conversation.

The wave of constitutional amendments in the early 2000's spurred a conversation that the US was other not about to have. States that had been moderately against gay marriage became supportive. Even the most radically anti-gay states have moderated.

Prop 8 was the anti-gay's Pearl Harbor.

Minnesota's attempt to amend their constitution hastened the states acceptance of same-sex marriage.

It will be interesting to see if the coming wave of anti-gay legislation will spark a conversation in eastern Europe. While there doesn't appear to be anyone to argue the other side, one might easily have said the same about many US states ten years ago. Even Tennessee communities have enacted protections for gays and lesbians, which would not have happened without these conversations.

Decency, morality and tradition are still very much alive in Croatia. Unlike America where these things are very much dead.

"The dispute over gay rights has divided Croatia. The country has taken steps to improve gay rights, but issues such as same-sex marriage remain highly sensitive in the staunchly Catholic nation." - Edge

I guess the question is are they conservative or liberal Catholics? My guess is the former.
