Ex-Gay Therapy Goes To Court

Ex-Gay Therapy Goes To Court

There are 15 comments on the lezgetreal.com story from Dec 1, 2012, titled Ex-Gay Therapy Goes To Court . In it, lezgetreal.com reports that:

California’s ban on ex-gay therapy is facing its first legal challenge. The law prevents mental health providers from counseling gay minors on how to become straight. Also known as “reparative therapy”, the practice has never been shown to actually cure anyone of being gay and when children are forced into it, often times they have reported a marked increase in suicidal thoughts and actions.

These idiots use that excuse for everything. They don't seem to know (or they do and don't care) that freedom of religion does not give them license to heap emotional abuse on their children.

Who ever came up with the reparative therapy should be charged because they are lying, they were never Gay from the start, they were “experimenting” and now they say they have this reparative therapy which is rubbish, homosexuality is not a mental problem, its FABULOUSITY

Under California law, the restriction against the use of so-called "reparative therapies" on adults applies only to therapists who obtain a license from the state. State-licensed therapists cannot use these methods.

Unlicensed therapists, counselors, and religious advisers are free to use these unproven and counter-productive methods on consenting adults.

No person may use these methods on minors, regardless of consent.

I can't wait to see *how they try to explain* what they're doing.

They'll be annihilated in court.

There's NO WAY they won't unless a verdict runs counter to FACT, in which case the pro-gay could institute lawsuits to the high heavens, quite frankly, on bases from DSM classification to individualization of lawsuits for every unwilling person who *ever* went through this "therapy." But I highly, highly doubt that would even approach happening. Courts deal in FACT.

And the fact remains that if an adult really wanted to receive this "therapy" in California (for religious, mythological, or superstitious reasons), he would be free to obtain such "services" from a counselor who is unlicensed by the state. An individual does not need a license to call himself a therapist or counselor, and religious organizations can provide religious "counseling", including "reparative therapy" to adults provided that the adults are fully informed about the efficacy of the treatment and consent to it.

These lawsuits should be dismissed as being without merit.

Shhh, don't confuse the fundies with fact. On second thought, do it. It's fun to watch their brains explode!

No COMPETENT and REAL therapist would ever think of doing "reparative 'therapy'" on anyone. It's completely unethical.

Exactly; your posts speaks for me. They have to work around what is known and accepted medically; this changes nothing about my previous post based entirely on the fact that no matter how you or I slice it, they're presenting this in *factual* and *professional* contexts, and will continue to do so.

Nothing you or I or anyone says will change that. The antigay think of this in "factual" and "professional" terms.

This is why in every post about this subject, I am repetitively -- with dogged repetition, in fact -- gloriously overjoyed that it is the *antigay* who are bringing about their own destruction in this matter. They couldn't care less what anyone else in the world is saying about what they're doing or attempting to do.

And that couldn't be more perfect for the pro-gay.

That's why I just made the point to "Jerald" that nothing about any of us discussing these matters even *has any import*, in the most beautiful way: It's the antigay doing this to THEMSELVES this time, and I am not even hearing anyone who doesn't share my enthusiasm for these cases to go forward. I cannot WAIT.

They insisted. They will not back down. What the pro-gay could do to slam them in court for this will likely provide a case the antigay are never, never going to forget.

Notice how I never, ever concede what the antigay have to say as according to their own views, and here I am conceding it so far as to make a major point of it to "Jerald." There's a reason for that.

We're finally dealing with a case where what the antigay think is best for them is the absolute *worst* thing they could possibly do; I *like* reading that post about their own unlicensed practices because that's *exactly* what I have been alluding to (in part) this entire time.

This is all so much fun. More fun than I've had in a long time in watching the antigay self-destruct. I think they hardly have any idea what they are doing with this; if they knew, they would shut their mouths and, JUST like "Jerald" alluded to, wouldn't be pushing this in court. They wouldn't *begin to dare* to push it in court, but instead they're doing so as if they're possessed by ... demons, really.

Actually dear, the opinion of the children that this unproven except for how dangerous it is therapy is in their best interest is unknown.

This is a fundamental right of individuals and you gays will lose.
A fundamental right to subject children to heterosexual only indoctrination, whether it is actually helpful to them or not, in the name of God. Good luck with that one, especially after the mountain of evidence against just this kind of psychological abuse is introduced.

The APA even admits that there simply is no evidence of enough cures, despite the higher rate of cures compared to alcoholism and the APA also says that there is no evidence of harm either.
Sweetie, the APA has concluded that these alleged therapies are not only obscenely ineffective, but unacceptably harmful as well, in ADULTS ( http://www.apa.org/about/policy/sexual-orient... ) and yet you are supporting a lawsuit to inflict it on children. Your Jesus must be so proud.

God, I can't wait for this stuff to land in court. Unless it's bungled beyond all sanity, the antigay are about to see court verdicts they will never, never, never forget.

This was the single stupidest thing they could *ever* have decided they're going to try to "fight" in court. Holy wow. Wow.

They're going to go into court and claim they have "fact" to support this "therapy" and then their opposition will take the stand with witnesses who are going to *annihilate* the living shit out of this so-called "testimony." The antigay are crazy beyond all assistance if they think they're going to win this. For once, they're so foolish and so stupid that they will get *EVERYTHING* they deserve.

Finally.

For once.

Between the case in California and the one just filed in New Jersey, some folk are going to be racking up some serious frequent flyer miles, self-professed experts supporting this nonsense are in short supply. It'll be fun to watch.
