I want to say "Thanks folks" to all the 'Archie Bunker' types who have done so much to further equality for gays and lesbians.

Keep saying stupid stuff. I really appreciate it when you do.

I heard a great line the other day while watching my "The West Wing" DVD's.

Republicans want a huge military but never want it to be used anywhere. Democrats want a small military and expect it to be used everywhere.

Of course this is simplistic and silly.

Conservatives have convinced themselves that simply by claiming they are conservative that means they aren't just as reactionary and short sighted as any liberal could be.

Oddly enough in their effort to demonize the word "liberal" they have also demonized the term "conservative".

They were making a funny. Dale Lee McFarland is the Arizona mega-church pastor being sued for 6 million plus by a parishioner and her hubby for convincing her to have sex with him when he was actually scheduled to be giving her advice on saving her marriage...

Thanks for giving me the info. This is one of those times I was totally clueless (Let the troll attacks commence)!

How much you wanna bet if he loses, most of the settlement will be paid by the insurance the Church probably carries for this kind of thing?

Actually, the name didn't ring any bells for me, I had to look him up. I had heard about his story a while back, but didn't make the connection when I saw the name here.

The bigger the church, the bigger the liability policy it has to carry.

I know. As you probably know I have always had trouble deciding which part I find more morally repugnant. The "Religious Greoups" who buy these policies to make you they don't lose their worldly goods.

Or the companies that sell them or the States that allow it.

BTW when was the last time you stopped by your "STUDY: Homophobes Terrified You'll Make a Pass at Them" thread. I missed over 300 Pages in the last wto nights.

It's so funny listening to all these guys insist they aren't afraid of gays at all. Then they share stories of guys looking at their junk in bathrooms, at the gym, etc.

Macho chest beating with everyone claiming they have 10 inches!

I was laughing so hard I had to change stories!

I think somehow you KNEW that would draw them all out of the woodwork like sugar to ants!

Seriously I'm going to save it for anytime I need a good laugh!

I never heard of this guy, but it seems to me that the Assmblies Of God denomination is particularly renowned for this sort of thing. I believe that was the denomination that Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggert both belonged to.

One of the reasons I remember when the Jessica Hahn scandal broke is because at that time, in addition to it being world-wide news, I worked with a woman who attended the same church as Jessica Hahn, and she was a friend of hers.

(An ELCA Lutheran would NEVER do such a thing !) <S>

Even if they didn't include coverage for the liability of pastors going wild, churches would still need plenty of liability coverage for everything else that might go wrong.

I have to defend me some Jim Bakker, I owe most of my first master's degree to the guy. Jim was in over his head from the start, not the sharpest knife in the drawer and way too trusting for his own good. He was however one of the best charismatic preachers in the business and with that, the most amazing talent I have ever seen to talk a crowd of people out of large sums of cash on the spot. You get to go to heaven when you give it up for God. Around this, his entourage built the silliest pyramid scheme ever conceived and one which actually succeeded for a heck of a lot longer than it should have. Jessica Hahn was the entourage's way of setting up Jim to take the rap for the whole shebang. When she blew up, they got the f out of Charlotte with what little cash was left after the group's massive spending spree. Most of the folk who were really to blame for the whole PTL boondoggle stayed in the business and went to work for Jerry Falwell.

Thanks Archie!

Now how about a response that actually requires brain cells to write.

I just said both sides are doing a terrible job and you disagree.

So tell us why you disagree with that.

Someone claimed elsewhere that Pat Robertson and TBN got their start from the PTL implosion. I can see how both Jerry and Pat would be the vultures to first land on the body of cash, though I am sure many PTL bigwigs managed to hide a lot of it.
Your thoughts?

Great second sentence. Next time you use it I hope you'll also let people know I said it first about you.
