Entering into a contract with a married person creates a shared obligation; entering into a contract with two non-married people makes the two individually and seperately liable.
Having kids requires no legal connection and is not a requirement of marriage.

Hmmmmmm.....there are anti cohabitation laws on the books in several states..... and Utah has anti polygamy laws on the books....does it not?
Yet "non licensed spouses" can still enter into non marital legal contracts. "Non licensed spouses" can still beget children together, and are legally obligated to care for them. "Non legal spouses" can own property together.
