Shades of Rosa Parks. What's next? Our own drinking fountains?

I think a little more than apology is called for.

If the shuttle bus is branded with the name of a rental car company, that company should sue them as well. It could cause an unintentional loss of business.

Actually I'd prefer my own personal drinking fountain!

But I agree with your point.

The only thing that surprised me in the article was that it didn't happen in Alabama or Mississippi!

In this case, apology is actually spot on. The business does have a little more responsibility to their employee's actions, by law, than is even conceivably possible. Unless this employee had discriminated against someone, the company would have no way to know it would happen.

Personnel actions are in order. Having all employees review non-discrimination law might be a good idea.

The article notes that the employee in question was suspended pending an investigation, so at least that's a positive step.
