CDC: Half of young people with HIV don't know it

Nov 27, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: WGAL-TV Lancaster

Almost a quarter of new HIV cases are seen in young people, and more than half of them don't know they're infected, says a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

Whenever I read statements like these, I can't help but ask, "How do THEY know?"

It's obviously part of a campaign to get the next generation to take HIV and other STDs seriously, but scientifically it's nonsense.

The CDCP should stick to the science, and pass off the campaigning duties to the NHS, NIH, etc.. A budget cycle must be coming up.

It makes me wonder if HIV hasn't indeed mutated to something more benign than what it was in the 80's - the old signs like Karposi's and pnemonia don't seem to show up anymore... or maybe people are being diagnosed now before such syptoms appear.

I think also we are learning what to look for, better diagnostics, and better treatments. I think we are also finding that people may be possibly developing a low grade resistance to the disease.
On the down side, I also think we are finding that the latent time frame of the symptom free period of the disease may be quite a bit longer... It might be taking longer for the disease to really get going, or it just may dormant in the body for a longer time...
As I understand it, the tests don't detect the virus itself, but rather the antibodies that an active infection produces. So if the virus is present, but in such a situation that does not produce the expected antibodies... the person could have the virus present, exhibit no symptoms, not even be detectable, and yet still be able to infect other people. The resultant latent times would be un measurable.

Why don't gay adults set the example and stop being so promiscuous themselves? Young people are not only learning that anything goes in sex, but apparently are also learning that having many partners is the way to live. Shame on all of you for leading the young into a dangerous lifestyle.

Sweetie, there's not paying attention and there's not paying attention. How could you not notice the whole fight for the rights of hopefully monogamous, hopefully lifelong same sex couples in marriage? Isn't the whole idea to make that kind of stability appealing? Young gay men are growing up in a world where they have a right to their sex life but rather limited rights to a love life, because people like you can't stop fantasizing about that sex life. Telling them to just keep their legs crossed only works on some of them, there is all of human history which is proof of that. The surprising thing is that we're not losing more.

How do YOU know that gay males are promiscuous ? How many gay males do YOU know ? And since at least 50% of str8 marriage end in divorce, are you saying that str8s are LESS promiscuous ?

The cheap test reads for the enzyme byproduct markers. The MOST expensive, a Titer test, hunts the virus.

No resistance to any of the strains has been found ... anywhere. The various strains DO seem to have different latency periods, hence the range: 3-15 yrs.

The worst symptoms were in people who were multiply infected with two or more strains.

Divorce does not equate with promiscuity. One can be divorced and have had only one sex partner during their lifetime. Studies have been done. Just do a web search.

Hopefully monogamous? Check out this article: http://www.mercatornet.com/articles/view/open...
Gays do not need marriage to love or be in committed monogamous relationships. The fact that so few do when they are actually "married" means marriage redefined in more ways than one. A travesty, really. I personally do not care to turn the world upside down in an attempt to make stability "appealing" to people who clearly do not crave stability. Gays crave only validation in an attempt to shut up that nagging voice in the back of their minds. No matter how much we turn the world upside down for you, it will NOT shut up that voice. And if you don't have that voice, then you have clearly been deprived of your conscience somewhere along the way.

True, but they need marriage to make such relationships legal.

Yeah, right. Marriage is redefining homosexuality moron, not the other way around.

Sweetie, we've had legalized same sex marriages in the world for more than a decade now, in this country going on nearly as long and the world is still right side up.

The only nagging voices come from monsters like you cupcake.

We don't expect you to shut up, you enjoy being a monster and there really isn't anything we can do to take that away from you.

You aren't my conscience bitch, you are a monster out to destroy those you 'disagree' with because you say God says so. You should be ashamed but it is you who have clubbed you conscience to death like a baby seal.

I am not your conscience, and I never claimed to be. Apparently whether or not someone thinks the world is right side up is a matter of perception, and I perceive that it is seriously tipping. I am not alone.

Let's get back on topic, shall we. This article is about young people running around with AIDS and spreading the disease because 1) they got the disease from somebody else who had obviously been screwing around some, 2) they are themselves infecting other people because they continue that oh so lovely lifestyle of screwing people in uncommitted relationships just to get their rocks off, 3) all them (screwers, screwees, and screwees turned screwers) are now infected with an incurable disease that requires lifelong expensive medical intervention just to keep them from passing away very young as so many of them have done before them. And I'm the monster in this scenario? I beg to differ. I think the monsters are the gay men who are encouraging and participating in a self-destructive compulsion. And the super monsters are the infected gay men who like introducing young boys to the lifestyle. Young people shouldn't be having sex ... period. They clearly aren't mature enough to handle the activity safely. Young people especially shouldn't be having sex with older experienced, disease-ridden men. And yes, the world is tipping precariously.

Yes dear, all because monsters like you refuse to allow true safer sex information, regardless of the sex of the participants to be taught in schools. They grow up ignorant and at risk and YOU are to blame.

Sweetie, thinking is obviously something that you don't do often or particularly well. You are an ignorant and hateful monster and Jesus is embarrassed by you.

The next person you see, ask them to do the world a huge, huge favor and try to slap you back to reality.

That is a thought far too late, moron.

Assh*le, if they had been given the information in the first place, the odds are they would likely be mature enough to put it into practice. The real f*cking immaturity comes from monsters like you who can't cope with reality and insist on keeping kids ignorant and vulnerable.

Shame on you, Hick. You know you're posting lies.

Nearly all homosexuals are just like you, living alone and despised. Homosexual behavior is based on selfishness, not love. It is MUCH more likely to be something anonymous in a filthy public restroom than anything enduring.

You add to the disillusionment and suicided that is so high among homosexuals by promoting such lies.

While you elderly dissipated homosexuals promote such lies, young homosexuals are contracting life threatening diseases and dying.

You have blood on your hands, Hick.

Why not tell the truth?
