So to have courage in the Catholic Church, if you are homosexual, is to live a celebate life? And who are teaching these workshops? Celebate priests. It seems like a conflict of interest.

You can dis it if you like, but given the church's stance on homosexuality, I think it is a pretty gutsy move forward.

How is it a move forward? Gays are told that they can buy God's love by denying themselves a real life. This is progress?

You can not by God's love. It is a move forward, if you know it is wrong in your heart, but you are still attracted to the same sex, the only logical thing to do is to remain celebate. If you know that killing is wrong and a sin and you do it anyway the wages of sin is death. A sin is a sin and homosexuality is no different.

We can't help what we are, but we can abide by the Gospels. We are to love each other, but that doesn't mean that we have to love the acts of each other.

So if you are born homosexual, than you are confined to a life without love. Why?

It is a move forward because we're talking about it. Clergy are going to seminars-where before we blew gays off as if the whole concept was too abhorent. We could debate the church's view on the gay life style until the cows come home--I don't agree with it, but I am jazzed that same sex attraction is at least being talked about. Baby steps!

that is IF same sex orientation is a sin. it's not mentioned anyplace in mosaic law or in the gospels. are you sure that you and the catholic church have your facts strait on this?

sorry that i made an assumption that since this blog was about a catholic programme, then she was defending the catholic church. one way or another, however, my statement stands. i think that they both have their facts a bit askew.

Dances...I agree, but my point was that one Catholic has an opinion that may not be the same as another Catholic.

Hi teacher,

Let's not forget that the Catholic church also considers masturbation to be a "grave sin", so homosexuals aren't even permitted to masturbate to relieve themselves of sexual tension/buildup. I do NOT think the constant suppression of this VERY NATURAL urge is healthy. It it were wrong, why would God have given it to us? It's part of growing up and serves useful purpose when we have no partner. It all gets back to the Catholic tendency to allude to sex as being basically "dirty and evil". I actually had a priest say that masturbation is "unnatural" -- oh, give me a break! It is perfectly natural; people do not have to be taught to do it, it just comes naturally and babies even do it. I'm willing to bet a lot of physicians, even Catholic ones, would agree with me. I like your posts and you always make sense. Keep up your very sensible input!
