tennessee church kicks out family for supporting lesbian daughter

There are 10 comments on the www.towleroad.com story from Aug 25, 2013, titled tennessee church kicks out family for supporting lesbian daughter. In it, www.towleroad.com reports that:

The Coopers of Collegedale, TN had been members of the Ridgedale Church of Christ for over three generations. That all changed when they were photographed at a city council meeting that voted 4-1 to approve same-sex benefits to government employees. The Coopers' daughter, Kat, is a lesbian and a detective with the Collegedale Police Department and had been leading the cause to have those benefits extended to gay couples. Because they showed up to support her, the church met privately with Kat's parents, aunt, and uncle and gave them an ultimatum: repent for their sins and ask forgiveness in front of the congregation, or leave the church, the Times Free Press reports.

The sin of Kat's relatives, according to minister Ken Willis, is that of endorsing her 'lifestyle', which he says the Bible is explicit about. While Willis doesn't expect the Coopers to disown Kat, he says that while parents should still love their children they shouldn't support their sin; love the sinner, hate the sin. But it would also seem that loving a sinner is itself a sin, judging from the actions of Willis and the church authorities.

This is so sickening. The whole "love the sinner hate the sin" is just a nice way of saying we'll treat you like crap because we only practice finger pointing and not forgiveness. But we love you.

Sure. What they love is their own self righteousness.

It will be interesting to see what happens to these "love the sinner hate the sin types when they face God as it describes in Matt. 25:31-46

One thing for sure this church isn't listening to Jesus when He was asked by an expert, "“Teacher,” he asked,“what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Luke 10:25-37
New International Version (NIV)
The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus.“Teacher,” he asked,“what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied.“How do you read it?”

27 He answered,“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and,‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied.“Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus,“And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said:“A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper.‘Look after him,’ he said,‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied,“The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him,“Go and do likewise.”

This is a wonderful thing for the family and all of us
.
Through this family GOD is showing the whole world how you can waste 3 generations worshiping in a fake church
.
Now they can seek a real church that pleases GOD instead of Ken Wills

I can understand their push for religious exemptions and most of the rest about changing bylaws. These people are afraid they are being stripped of their religious freedoms. We GLBT people and our straight supporters MUST insure they see that we will always protect their 1st Amendment rights within their own houses of worship.

As for what they do within their own houses of worship, it's none of my business if I'm not a member of their congregation.

I am encouraged that more and more evangelicals are seeing civil unions as being valid in civil law. It's a step forward.

Yet we must also insure that our rights benefits and privileges under the law be protected in the public areas and business.

It's up to God to judge this question:
