If God can appear to Moses and tell him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, then why won't God appear to the fundies and tell them to stop beating up his gay and lesbian creations ?!

Come on now, aren't there already people praying for the exact opposite of this? All these contradictory prayers are going to confuse God, to the point where he doesn't know whose hearts to harden, or who to smite, or which direction to send the next storm. Give the old diety a break!

Saying that God needs to appear to Christian bigots to tell them personally to stop beating LGBT people up isn't really going to help us.

I'm a church-going Christian. I tink it's a good question. Why did God appear to humans only thousands of years ago, and stopped doing so in the past 1900 years ?

If he showed up once in awhile, don't you tink it would strengthen people's faith and convert some unbelievers ?

So as a gay Christian, you think it's perfectly fine for homophobes to physically, legally, and emotionally assault LGBT people since God didn't appear to them personally and tell them NO.

Got it.

And you wonder why other LGBT people might have problems with you.

If you think it's a good question, doesn't the absence of an answer give you pause? Do you follow the question through it's logical progression?

God stopped contacting humans for the same reason that Zeus & Odin stopped. There never WERE any gods appearing to humans, there were only humans CLAIMING that gods were doing that, in hopes that other humans would look upon them with awe. And other humans did. They're just that gullible, despite a complete vacuum of evidence.

If converting unbelievers was important to a god, then that god would be hanging out with humans EVERY DAY, in hopes of saving them from eternal torture (which he created). Even 1900 hundred years ago, he would've visited more regions than only the Middle East. He wouldn't have put his most important message into the hands of human beings for them to re-translate and re-interpret, dooming millions (or billions) to Hell for ascribing to an incorrect version of the message.

All religions are just STORIES, created to answer questions that the people of the day couldn't answer. Human beings who care about reason and logic have no excuse for clinging to these primitive myths, expecting gods to heed their requests (to which other humans are no doubt requesting the complete opposite).

I know.

Meanwhile, millions of Christians are certain that God told them that gay people are worth scorn and exclusion. And millions of people like Carly Rae Jepson are sure that their "personal relationship" with this absentee character means that he's fervently listening to their requests to accept gay people.

He won't make an appearance either way, and the conflict goes on, for humans to solve alone. The only people who can't offer a rational solution are the ones who claim to have supernatural resources.

I wish humans would grow up, and ditch these useless superstitions.

Why do you always blame Christians, and not the Jews ? It's the JEWISH texts that Christians always cite when condemening gay and lesbian people. Since the texts originated with the Jews, why do they get a pass on this ?

Foxy, your posts are remarkably consistent. You consistently spout half-baked ideas with generous helpings of ignorance and thinly veiled racism.

I understand completely what you posted; that's why I challenged you on it. Do you really not understand the logic and consequences of your own arguments?

Perhaps because LGBT rights have been embraced within the Jewish community more than they have within the Christian community.

According to the info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judaism_and_sexu... only Orthodox Jews forbid homosexuality. Of the 13.3 million Jews that exist in the world, only 1.8 million of them are Orthodox.

The Christian community has quite a way to go if it wants to catch up to the Jewish community with regard to LGBT rights.

Doesn't matter.

Unless you belong to my church, "St. Martin's Second Reformed Lutheran Church And Microbrewery Of Tobyhanna",(we needed TWO signs outside the church to get all that on there), you can't get into heaven anyway.

Unless you hang out with me 24/7, you don't know who I "always" blame.

But since Jews comprise less than 2 percent of the US population, they aren't really the driving force behind equality opposition. It's Christians who dominate the airwaves and the news headlines on this issue.
Fa-Foxy wrote:

Wait... what??

You're saying that I shouldn't blame Christians, because they cite someone else's texts?

Is someone FORCING them to cite those texts? Do they have no choice? I blame them for DOING THE CITING. They aren't off the hook just because they didn't originate the texts. If Christians adopt those texts, and willingly cite them, then Christians are culpable for upholding what the texts uphold.

When faced with "marriage alternatives" like civil unions and domestic partnerships, gay activists often like to point out the old trope that "Separate but equal is NOT equal". But we didn't ORIGINATE that phrase, it came from the black civil rights movement. Should we deflect anti-gay opposition back to black people, since they were the ones who came up with that saying?

No. If we adopt it and stand behind it, then complaints about our use of it can and should be brought directly to us.

Christians might as well complain that THEY aren't responsible for biblical opposition to gay people, it was GOD'S idea. Oh, hey, what do you know, they DO try to weasel out of culpability just LIKE that.
Fa-Foxy wrote:

They get no pass on this. But there's little audience for it. I COULD say "Hey, Jews who oppose marriage equality and gay rights, I'm just as upset with you as I am with Christians in the same position. Get with the times."

I hope they both heard me.

Sarcasm aside, I'll say the same thing to any Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Shintos, Scientologists, Zoroastrians, Incas or Aztecs who presume to tell me that they oppose my equality because of what they heard from some supernatural agency.

I'll tell them all that they never heard SQUAT, they're just projecting what THEY personally want these deities to say, and claiming that the gods agree with them.

But there are Christians (and Jews, and Muslims...) in BOTH positions, both pro- and anti-gay, who claim that God is behind them in their beliefs. A god with THAT many contradictory stances must really have his head spinning. I wish he'd make up his mind already.
