Mormon Church Tells Lesbians, Gays It’s Alright To Be Gay, Just Don’t Act On It

There are 173 comments on the lezgetreal.com story from Nov 13, 2010, titled Mormon Church Tells Lesbians, Gays It’s Alright To Be Gay, Just Don’t Act On It. In it, lezgetreal.com reports that:

Imagine, if you will, someone saying that ‘you can be Mormon, but you cannot act upon it’ or ‘you can be Catholic, but you cannot act upon it.’ What if you were told that you can be Native American, but you cannot act like you are Native American, or Black or Asian, or any other minority group. In crafting their news policies published in the Church Handbook of Instructions, the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said just that. It is alright to be gay, just don’t act on it. So, it’s ok to be a woman, but I have to act like a man? That is ridiculous, is it not?

Dear Mormon Church (and for that matter, other religious institutions that prey on the poor). It's alright for you to practice your religion - just don't ACT on it and thereby use it to OPPRESS others different from you ....

the bible is a book of FAITH, not FACT !!

who gives a crap what the mormons say? isn't that a bogus religion? if their religion was so great they wouldn't have to peddle it door to door like magic potions, people would be coming to them. mormons also say no sex before marriage, no masturbating, need i go on? religion has pretty much outlived its usefulness. they don't represent any god i want to know. the god of my dreams is loving and caring and compassionate and understanding. not full of judgement and ridicule and hating.

Oh! so now the snarling mormons are orgasm Nazis!
.
figures
.
What are they afraid of now?....that gay people loving each other make gay babies?
.
Here's for the snarling mormons to repeat after me:
.
"Gay People Make Love; NOT Babies"
.
and when you get tired of that one, do this one:
.
"Love Is Never Wrong"
.
and when you get tired of that one, do this one:
.
"Better Gay Than Mormon"

Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen Torch Song Trilogy. I think it's time to reorder it.

What we all have to remember here is that

Being Mormon or Catholic is a CHOICE!

Being Gay is NOT!

Mormons and Catholics can CHANGE! They don't have to believe what the church "bosses' tell them.

Excellent point. No one is born catholic or born mormon. They can be helped with the right therapy. There is hope for them as evident by the thousands of ex-catholics & ex-mormons out there!

I think it's one of the best gay films ever made. I've found only a couple of flaws in it.(Matt looks directly into the camera, and inflects his lines strangely)

I think we should pressure some networks to broadcast it.

The best gay mormon film has got to be Latter Days.

I saw "The Mormon Proposition" recently. It was far more disturbing than I had anticipated. I recommend it to all.

I've always loved it, too. But the commercial networks would just edit it and dilute its impact with commercials. And recalling the pay cable showings, they showed the pan-and-scan version which cut off some of the interesting stuff going on at the sides of the frame.

Better to buy the widescreen DVD and thus encourage video companies to keep manufacturing and marketing GLBTQ-themed projects. In that industry, like so many others, money speaks louder than words!

It's okay to be left-handed as long as you use your right hand or neither hand.

Think that sounds stupid, or like a joke?

It wasn't long ago that religious nutjobs were preaching exactly that, and left-handed children were punished for using their left hands.

It's okay to be a religious nutjob, just don't act on it.

Be a polygamist but don't act on it - like what the Mormons have been doing since Utah statehood...
