Parents of transgender first-grader file discrimination complaint

A prominent transgender rights group announced Wednesday that it has filed a discrimination complaint in Colorado on behalf of a first-grader who was born a boy but identifies as a girl.

Last December, school officials at Fountain-Fort Carson School District told Coy Mathis' parents that their child could no longer use the girls' bathroom at Eagleside Elementary. That shocked her parents, said her mother, Kathryn Mathis.

Coy was born with male sex organs but has, since she could express herself, identified as female. The child had gotten through kindergarten with no problems and no complaints from anyone at the school, Mathis said. Kathryn Mathis explained that she pulled Coy out of school when the child was on winter break, well after school officials had called her to tell her about the bathroom ban.

The mother feared that bullies at the school would make fun of her daughter if she allowed Coy to go back to class. "In the end we just want what is the best for Coy," Mathis said, explaining why the complaint was filed. "We want her to be able to go back to school and be treated equally without discrimination and harassment." Attorney Michael Silverman of the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund, which is representing Coy, said the complaint is intended to have an impact beyond a single family or school.

I expected all this trash when I posted this story. Anti-gay anti trans people just refuse to accept that the world isn't just them.

Their fundamentalism dictates that everything be just so, even when that just so defies the reality they actually live in. The idea of "what if" terrifies them because once that question is asked, it can be asked about anything they believe in.

Most first graders I have had experience with identify a person as male or female based on how they dress. And my experience working as a janitor also showed me that in girls rooms there are stalls with doors. It's not like this child is walking up to a urinal and whipping it out!

Like the parents pointed out, this wasn't a problem for the school before. So there should be no reason for the school to create a problem.

Doing a google search and a bing search reveals that the words "Authorities say evidence examined disproves the assertion that child molestation is more prevalent among heterosexuals." bring up articles in WHIRRLED NUTS DAILY! and conservative anti-gay christian articles. But it's not found in the source you claim it came from.

Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays is a United Kingdom Group. I find it interesting that you use the name of a group in England and not the US group when discussing FBI stats. Perhaps you think people will automatically assume you are referring to PFLAG.

(Like I said I've caught this trick of yours before).

Call me old fashioned but when someone needs to be deceptive to try to prove their claim, it usually means the claim is false.

Lastly I wonder why you are talking about pedophilia in relation to a first grader using a bathroom like every other student in the school who wears a dress.
