After the Sochi Games are over, expect the Russian Duma to take up a bill to outlaw homosexuality.

Ivan Okhlobystin: "People close to me do not have to suffer from my public position from which I will never give up."

Yet he wants laws passed that will make OUR families and friends suffer if one of OUR family is gay or lesbian.

I originally came up with this as a response for Kimare but it fits Ivan Okhlobystin so well I have to re-post it.

The Definition of being Two- Faced.
When the two cheeks you show people are squeezing out a smile, while the two cheeks people experience are the ones squeezing out a load of crap.

And in the meantime, Oklahoma just had its ban on same sex marriage struck down this very day.

Gee, Merv, looks like the Moscow's the place you ought to be! Or Zambia. Take your pick and don't let the screen door hit you on your way out.

When will these bigoted celebrities learn that making stupid comments like this will only do damage to their careers? Of course, homophobes aren't known for a high intelligence level.

It's surprising to me that there was such a backlash since all the anti-gays are claiming all Russians are anti-gay.

It wasn't any sort of public outcry. It was pressure from the foreign phone suppliers that got him fired. That you imagined otherwise demonstrated how good the Russian spinners are. So convenient, isn't it, right at the start of the Sochi Games? He's not going hungry. He has another position somewhere else waiting for him to walk right into ... after nobody is paying attention any longer.

Oh I didn't REALLY think it was the russian people who were behind the backlash. They are still conditioned to follow whatever the State tells them to.

I agree much of this is window dressing for Sochi. Russia will one day come to know the reality that faced S. Africa over apartheid.

Sorry, but really not likely.

What you are going to see is an actual fascistic theonomic caesaropapism, live and wriggling in your lifetime.

And (hold onto your hat) Putin and Kirill will be declared saints shortly after their deaths.

They haven't figured out how to do it before death yet.
