Justice Byron White was a liberal. Why didn't the Dems and Libs DEMAND that BYRON WHITE resign from SCOTUS when he WROTE THE MAJORITY OPINION to UPHOLD Georgia's anti-sodomy law in Bowers v. Hardwicke ?

WHY NOT ???!!!

Probably because he wasn't being a whiny little bitch about doing his job. Also BvH was based solely on GA's constitution, not the federal constitution.

You know something- in 1993, I was 18/19 years old. I may be old, but I wasn't around when White wrote his opinion. Plus, I don't think he was being a cry baby about his opinion either.

So, you know something- why don't you actually try coming up with something other than a kvetch about the Democrats- especially since when White wrote that opinion, LGBT rights were still a long way off.

Scalia betrayed every single thing he says he stands for in his tantrum today, so give me a break.

With any luck Scalia will be dead soon and then Obama or Clinton gets to replace him!

You know, I think it's a very well-written, thought-provoking commentary. However, it's just that: a commentary, expressing the opinion of one single person, the writer, who is not claiming to be the voice of an entire segment of the population.

And so I agree with you ... to presume that all Pacific Islanders and octogenarians are in accord because the writer is an 82 year old Samoan is disingenuous, hysterical and ridiculous.

I also agree that Scalia betrayed everything he claims to stand for in his dissent: if his attitude can be described as truly "Conservative", then the term has lost all its meaning.

Complaining that the liberals were overreaching the day after helping overturn the VRA was quite pathetic. I do think he's losing his faculties. Lack of discretion is a sign of senility.

Well, since blacks are THE MOST HOMOPHOBIC segment of society, I just THANK GOD that SCOTUS overturned the Voting Rights Act so they will NO LONGER be allowed to vote !:)

THERE IS NO U.S. CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO VOTE !

Scalia will probably be on the bench for another 20 years. One reason he was picked by Reagan in 1986 was because he was only 50 years old. He could be on the bench more than 50 years, It's not outside the realm of possibility.

Actually, Republicans are the most homophobic segment of society. Perhaps we can stop them from voting?

I seriously think dementia is setting in. Over the last year, especially, Scalia's famed impudence has gotten progressively more brazen and more illogical. The only question is how much damage he can do on SCOTUS before he'd declared incompetent.
