Gay for pay. Are they really straight?

Jun 12, 2009 Full story: 101

There are men who identify as "straight" that indulge in "gay for pay" where they have sex with other men for money.

I do not see the act of having sex with one sex or the other as the only indicator of orientation. Surely humans are not that shallow. Sex for the act of pleasure or pay is just that. I do believe it indicates that they are not narrow minded and open to new experiences albeit not for the right reasons.

Like you I find this a bit suspicious. To be able to get it up, you need to have some sort of interest in your partner...

I look at it this way - IF you are "straight" then there is NO way you'd have sex with the same sex....whether male or female..for no amount of money (unless you were desperate for food etc) it's hardwired.....interesting tho - I bet because the way men are....you could get a straight man to have oral gay sex...easier then getting a gay man to say (go orally down on a woman)....just my 2 cents.

Not necessarily do they have to be interested in their partner (think about prostitutes...they do it for the money too), but they've got to like what they are doing or having done to them to be able to get excited and get an erection. If you're not into it, it's not going to get hard. My personal opinion about these "gay for pay" guys are that their is some sort of bisexuality to them, for them to be open minded enough to have sex with someone of the same sex.

You guys are all too old to remember walking around with hardons when you weren't even thinking about sex. Many men-especially under 30-can get it up for just about any reason. And there's always fantasy. . . .

Maybe they fantasize about their female partners, or any female, in order to produce an erection. Straight married people have been fantasizing about other people during sex for millenium. Possibly they take one of the many drugs available to produce the erection. Maybe it's just the money that gives them the wood. Possibly they just lie back and think of England.

Pardon the vulgarity but just to say it,
Viagra and cockrings...
You would be amazed at how easy you will get hard for anything and no I am not speaking from personal experience, just an obvious fact.

To those who say they must be gay in order to "get it up", I counter with the FACT that there are many gay men who have married and lived as a "straight" man, even fathering children. They manage somehow to "get it up" even though the person they have sex with isn't the gender they are oriented towards. I have a friend who is gay, knows he's gay, but because of family and cultural pressure he recently married a woman (she doesn't know). He has described the sex with her as perfunctory, at best. He's able to perform, but he is just "going through the motions".

Now, these "gay for pay" guys could be doing similar. They are doing a job and that's all it is for them. Doesn't mean they're gay any more than being married to and having sex with a woman makes a gay man straight.

Why don't you turn the situation around and ask yourself this instead. Would a gay man have sex with women if the money was right? Think about it.

what a sad way for your friend to live...its not fair to him, nor his wife to have a REAL relationship....he'll regret it one day.

- Excellent point and yes, if the money was right, I believe a gay man would. We're talking about porn here not emotions, marriage, etc., correct? I would imagine it would happen for the same reasons and using the same techniques that straight men in gay porn use.

Yes there are gay men who have sex with women, there ARE straight men who have sex with other men. If you're the bottom you aren't the one who has to get hard. Viagra, cock rings, being 20 years old, the money, these all play a part.

But look at it this way too. Even if you were having sex with your preferred gender... could you do it (i.e. keep it up) under those bright lights, in front of a bunch of people, with a director shouting instructions at you??

I've had sex with someone while others were watching, but it was pretty easy to ignore them at the time. Can't say I could do it under bright lights with cameras rolling.

There are some really interesting responses to this. It would be easy to try to claim that they are secretly gay or, at least, bi. Especially if they are in a passive role. And, in reality, many of them probably are to some degree bi and perhaps even secretly gay. However, sexuality and sexual activities are very complex. Even definitions concerning what is and what isn't sex gets blurred by individual beliefs. Some people don't think that oral is sex at all. I've heard some guys claim that a mouth is a mouth, you just close your eyes, think of somebody pretty and enjoy. Many straight guys enjoy anal stimulation. I've known some who like their women to anally pleasure them with strap-ons but are totally turned off by the thought of anything to do with men. Then there are the guys who are too embarassed to let a woman know that they enjoy anal stimulation. Some secretly turn to toys. There is also the fact that many many guys will have sex with somebody that they wouldn't be caught dead with in public. So, yes, there are guys who identitfy as being straight and even are repulsed by gay sex that could and would be gay-for-pay.

While it's nice to wax-and-wane over the societial, personal and emotional pressures that might be part of what might drive a "str8" man to perform gay sex acts for money - but to be honest, it all comes down to MONEY!

I have a friend that is a male stripper and has done some limited "gay porn" videos. If you ask him why he'll look you right in the face and say:

The pay for gay stripping and video's is 3 to 4 times that of str8 porn!

If he wanted to do a str8 porn scene he MIGHT get paid $500 (that's up to the producer and studio). The same scene will pay him from %2,000 to $5,000!

Don't read much into this - this is all about MONEY!

And im NOT judging it's all about economics

i think men who call themselves straight and have sex with men... are in denial. probably scared to just fully come out. don't be ashamed of being queer... it's part of who you are. just admit it.

Most of the area between gay and straight is in shades of grey.

Those of us who are Gay or Bisexual know damn good and well that sexual orientation really isn't much of an impediment to sexual behavior, it's the straight folk who can't seem to wrap their head around the concept. We know, because we have seen that people can and do act completely contrary to their natural and normal sexual orientation for any of a whole slew of reasons. But for some odd reason, most straight folk get it in their head and refuse to let it out, that if you're doing the opposite sex, you're heterosexual and if you're doing the same sex, you're homosexual, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I guess its an easy black or white dichotomy to hang your reality on, but it doesn't take into account a whole lot of grey that really does exist.

First off, it completely ignores the reality that many people are to one degree or another, naturally bisexual and that many are more than happy to explore that duality and that others aren't as happy about it, but will anyways. Then it ignores those who through coersion, curiosity or a number of other reasons (cash is a damn good incentive, but alcohol and other fun substances can lower all sorts of inhibitions) jump from black to white or vice-versa anywhere from once in a life time, to as often as they can get away with it and even all the way to the duration of their sentence (either state or self-imposed).

As for the gay for pay straight guys, considering everything else we all have seen people do for the right price, not even a stretch of the imagination. Heck, the only time you really wonder about their orientation is when they do it on the cheap...

I agree, bottom line, this is about money and nothing else. When the wolves are at the door blah, blah, blah. I actually have an old gay vid and a guy in it, topping and bottoming, is in a later straight porn. In a capitalist society cash is king. If a gay man has sex with a woman he isn't necessarily in denial about his heterosexuality.

Many male prostitutes are actually straight men and teens that either ran away, are homeless or have a substance abuse problem.

At some point the need for survival kicks in and they move to this act. After a few times, my guess is that it becomes "just a job" and the money is easy...

I have read where straight guys will do gay porn for the money and have no problem being the bottom, but refuse to kiss the other guy.

It is possible for someone to detach themselves from the emotional aspect and simply make it a physical one. And granted, not everyone can do that but then again, not everyone has been put in some of the situations that many that are gay for pay sometimes are in.
