No self-respecting Gay man, Lesbian or Transgender person I know supports the misguided 'values' of the Republican party. Log Cabin Republicans who lick the toes of our oppressors seem to like the endless boot kicks in the face that party has _consistently_ delivered through the Gay and even Women's Rights movements.

"Relaunch", "Restyle" "Remessage" -- the Republican party or the Log Cabin Group? It's just lipstick on a pig repositioning itself for the next election cycle. I don't buy it, and neither does the vast majority of the Gay community.

Wouldn't it make sense to gain ground within a party that has historically excluded us, though? I've always thought the Log Cabins had the right idea, but was too Washington-based. The article stated as much, and that is why they have earned so much mistrust. While the San Francisco member numbers are meager, it is at least a step in the right direction.

38 paying members? Wow! I'm sure they feel they are responsible for the "shift" in the GOP's views on gay marriage and the fact the that the GOP is getting trounced in the voting booth surely has nothing to do with some Repub's new found tolerance.

The only way I could ever vote Republican again is if they returned to the values of the father of conservatism Barry Goldwater.
Fat chance of that!! Tea baggers would consider him a RINO.

As long as the GOP (god's own party) remains under the control of the Religious Reich there is no hope that they will be more accepting on Women's issues, LGBT issues or any other group except old straight white men.

But those old men aren't going to live forever! I don't think the Republican party is so much anti-gay as they are non-inclusive. Times and mores are changing, evolving, much like ourselves, and I for one would appreciate having a choice politically!

"He [Schein] said he could not understand how an LGBT person could not be a conservative."

Then he's a complete idiot. If he can't understand something that obvious, how can he expect anyone to take him seriously?

It's all about definition. Most of the gay people *I* know ARE fairly conservative. Conservative in mannerism, dress, career, family, etc.

But the GOP is anything BUT conservative! They're far more fascist than conservative. Conservatives don't want to climb into bed with you and your partner to monitor the acceptability of what you're doing. A true conservative doesn't care what you do in your bed as long as it doesn't infringe on what he's doing in HIS bed.

I think the Log Cabin delusionals have the right idea, but the wrong party. I think they'd be FAR better off selling their wares to the Democrats than the Republicans. There would be plenty of ears among the Democrats for fiscal conservatism alongside social liberalism.

I don't think either party can be considered fiscally conservative! But you're right- the Republicans are far from the answer in their present state. Maybe by including the Log Cabins a strong gay lobby can be built alongside an infusement of new conservative attitudes. I would rather be represented by them than continue to be the lilting, prancing mascots the Democratic party we're currently beholden to have made us.

Excuse me but I'd like to fill you in on a tiny bit of news.

The Gay and Lesbian community has come further in the past five years under the Democratic mascot plan than we have in the entire past 100 years. The progress we've made in this brief time is absolutely astounding.

Under your plan we'd be waiting another 100 years. No thanks!

The Democratic party didn't do that! The progress we've made has been the result of the efforts of dedicated, hard-working activists, lobbyists, lawyers, judges, artists, writers, et al. This is what infuriates me about this process! The fat legislators rush to the mike to take credit for what the regular people have earned through their own sweat. They're supposed to represent us; not send us into the mine shaft ahead of everyone else. People need to start taking credit for what they've accomplished and stop being fooled by the emporer.

You might just be more comfortable at the Tea Party table honey. I'll sit with the Dems in the catbird seat. We'll be in it till at least 2024.
