Protect the public.

Keep the ban.

Ignore the homosexual activists.

Why do gay men want to donate blood anyway?
So they spread disease, I suppose.

Yeah. Because they don't test blood in the U.S. before they use it. They rely on inaccurate stereotypes and baseless prejudice to keep the blood supply clean. Good plan.

Those rules were put in place before advances in testing. If the testing makes it safe then why not. If the testing is insufficient they should consider banning blacks too since they also have heightened risk.

Those rules were put in place in an attempt stop the panicking public from withholding all blood and plasma donations out of fear of *catching* HIV in the blood bank. In fact, they were never more than attempts at placating an ignorant public and pandering to anti-gay bigotry.

Ruling out any random subset of the population based simply on public opinion accomplishes nothing. Gay folks have been donating blood all along--they just keep quiet about being gay. I know at least a dozen gay men and Lesbians that happily donated blood in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and I know many more that routinely donate.

I once told someone at a blood bank that I can't give blood. She assumed it was because I'm gay (which we had just been discussing). I said, "No, it's not because of that, it's because I have an adverse reaction to it and I tend to pass out and/or throw up." She laughed and said, "Well, if you WANT to donate, and your blood is healthy, just don't tell me that you're gay and I won't have to write it down. We know better here than that."

What complete and utter nonsense. Since only 1.6% of the population is homosexual your "contributions" amount to very little.

Face reality, your donations are not needed or wanted.

Don't do it, FDA!! Public safety is far more important than gay egos.

Why only when donating blood? Why can't they just keep quiet about being gay all the time? That would solve 99.9% of their problems in life.
You first!! You keep everything about your life that would reveal anything about your private life a secret and let me know how that goes for you.

Actually, they do it because the ones I know that regularly donate have rare blood types that are in high demand by blood banks. They actually get called by various blood banks in times of need and asked to come in to donate.

So much for your "not needed or wanted" fantasy, huh??
