All hate crimes are despicable, irrational acts perpetrated by immature, emotionally and mentally stunted individuals.

I wager those responsible, when found, will be described as, "good, christian boys"...

Kudos to Mr. Heseltine for taking the high road. I hope the loosers who did this are caught and given lots of communitry service hours serving AIDS patients or something.

for a gay city ft. lauderdale isn't very tolerant, first the mayor tells police to entrap guys in park and now the kids are spray painting houses and cars, do they know where their money comes from?

I really feel for our community members who live in Florida. But this gay male is of the belief that the state of Florida should benefit no more from Gay bucks.

As a state of Florida resident, I will agree. If Amendment 2 should pass this November, then by all means avoid everything Florida. Only a country and worldwide boycott will wake up this greedy state when they realize that gays no longer come here.

How are they going to realize that if gays just stay away? I better approach that I have heard suggested here, is for gays to come just like usual, but save all their receipts and send them in to the Florida legislature with a letter informing them of the money they will loose if they loose gay tourism. Gay Days in June is huge! It brings in big bucks. Let them know what they are risking, don't just stay away.

Been there done that LindaS and J Bush's Administration was so cocky they actually sent me a thank you note for supporting Florida. Not again BOYCOTT HATE!
When the revenue is gone the greed will know. They did 30 plus years ago when we boycotted orange juice and Anita B. Florida has been at this for decades. Enough is enough.

I was born and raised in Florida but moved to Massachusetts many years ago. My husband and I are raising our son and enjoy a wonderful life. I have not seen anything like this happen here in over 20 years.
I think that all gays should just leave Florida- move out! The state will be drained of the tremendous talent and energy that we bring. Florida employers will have an increasingly difficult time recruiting people because we will tell them that we refuse to live in Florida. Gay people will enjoy their lives without feeling like second class citizens (in Florida we are second class with limited civil rights!).
Why should we spend our lives dealing with this kind of junk when we can spend our time and energy on other important things like campaigning for politicians, saving the environment, transforming health care, and OK, cutting hair, creating movies and entertainment, creating beauty in the world, driving trucks, etc.......

Yipes! Please don't leave or boycott Ft. Lauderdale! I live there half of the year and 'we' will suffer tremendously without the tourist dollars and friendly faces that you all bring with you. Right now, we have two gay candidates running for Mayor (Naugle is leaving due to term limits). Florida gays have made tremendous strides in recent years despite this being a Republican, hyper-Christian run state! Gays are flocking to Ft. Lauderdale from Miami. We are indeed flexing our financial muscle to make this a better place for all, but if you boycott, then we will lose that muscle and the bigots will win. Think about it....

I agree and I live here. We recently spent the week in Orlando and at all the theme parks. We also went to San Francisco and kept detailed records of our stay there. When comparing, we spent about the same amount of money on both vacations.

If this passes, we will make it clearly known that no more of our in state money will be spent here. We will gladly go to California, Arizona, New York, or Massachusetts. Who loses out? Florida does.

True, but Massachusetts is cold and you have snow and I just can not handle that weather. Florida's only bright spot is that we have the wonderful, warm weather, year round.

As for this amendment, I have strong feelings that it will be defeated. We only need 40% or more of the population stating that they do not agree with this amendment. I think November 4th will hold a lot of surprises for everyone.

You have far more faith in people than I. Given the experience so far with people, and our electoral system, in general, I don't foresee November 5 bringing any good news for anyone.

Your pessimistic side is so noted, but give me the benefit of the doubt here. I want Florida not to write blatant discrimination in our Constitution. We deserve that as a state. If we start on doing that, what will be next?

If you discriminate against one, you discriminate against all. I hold out hope that we will have a positive individual in the White House and hold out hope that the right people will do the right things.

I am not happy with a lot things outside of the gay issues in this country.

Here is what will happen if gay people boycott Florida. The people who will be hurt are the owners of businesses that are gay-friendly. You will see gay guesthouses close up. You will see gay-friendly businesses of all types leave the area.

All in all, you will make the bigots happy. Is that really the result you want to achieve?

Given the serious problems that the world faces: war, hunger, poverty, pollution etc. and the only thing that some people seem to ge to exercised about is gays and gay marriage. Would you people give this issue a break and focus on the REAL problems of the world. Gay people are not the enemy that some of you make them out to be. Leave them alone and GET A LIFE, a life that does not involve your sticking you nose into other people's private lives!

How would you feel if someone started a sentence, "I'm not a fan of darkies either, but..."?
