One's right to life, liberty, and property, to free speech, a free press, freedom of worship and assembly, and other fundamental rights may not be submitted to vote; they depend on the outcome of no elections.”

Define marriage?
a societal construct that is ever changing as the society that creates it changes..

the definition of what the legal, binding contract of marriage is has always changed. as it must, to remain relevant.

what marriage was just 100 years ago has no relation to what marriage is today, luckily...

A legal union between two consenting adults that exists to secure certain legal rights and protections.

My turn. Can offer a state interest served by limiting marriage to being between a man and a woman that would render such a restriction constitutional?

I don't think you can.

Webster's definition doesn't help you. It lists multiple definitions, which include the one you would like to exclude.

Marriage (noun)
1
a (1): the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2): the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage>
b : the mutual relation of married persons : wedlock
c : the institution whereby individuals are joined in a marriage
2: an act of marrying or the rite by which the married status is effected; especially : the wedding ceremony and attendant festivities or formalities
3: an intimate or close union <the marriage of painting and poetry — J. T. Shawcross>

Sorry, but no matter how much you neocons would like to spin things, by the early 21st century Saddam Hussein posed no threat whatsoever to anyone outside his own borders, so America had absolutely no good reason to go to war there, and pretty much the entire rest of the world (outside of Israel's Likud party) agrees with me.

"We the people" are always irrelevant when it comes to the RIGHTS of the individual. And no, all republics are representational; we are specifically a CONSTITUTIONAL republic.

So, who got bin Laden, again? It's impossible to win in the ME...all we've been doing is creating more america-hating potential terrorists.

Do you really want to argue the Iraqi campaign of GWOT?? Obama isn't doing any better in the ME so you want to fall back on this subject? We were winning before Obama took office, now we are just quitting the war. Let's wait and see how that works out for us!

It is great that he got UBL! He grabbed his n*ts for once in his life for reasons other then to impress a Michelle. They will find reason to hate. If it wasn't for the war, drone attacks it would be Israel, or the fall of the Ottoman empire, the Barbary Pirate wars, the crusades which they are still p*ssed about, they will find a reason. For them it Islam and all others must bow or die!

I didn't bring up this conversation, Norcal did. Also, we had more of a reasons to go to Iraq then we did for Libya and Syria combined!

Big question. Do you see marriage as a contract or a union in the eyes of God?

It is most definitely a contract through the state, but can be a ceremony in a religious setting. However, in order for it to be legal, and garner the benefits and protections of the state, if the religious ceremony does not include the state-sanctioned license, it does not garner those same benefits and protections of the state. Therefore it is a right under government, and a rite under a church. In any event, we do not need the church or its' religion to be married. And frankly, a lot of us don't give a damn what your "got" says or thinks.
