The so-called “rights of conscience” law is nothing more than a way for bigotry to rear its ugly head and undermine service cohesion. If someone's "religion" precludes them from doing their duty in the armed services, then s/he should never enlist, quit if already enlisted, or be subject to dismissal.

"Rights of conscience" was the argument used to keep whites and blacks separate, both in organizations like the military and marriages (re: Loving v. Virginia).

It's a bullshit claim told to justify foisting personal bigotry into places where personal views are not permitted. If some bigot doesn't want to work with gay people or accept gay marriage, he should quit.

This issue is not limited to the military or government clerks selling marriage licenses. Bigots among the pigs, ambulance drivers, fire fighters and others might try to use bullshit "rights of conscience" claims to refuse to help people, and leave them to die.

That has already happened, such as cases of ambulance drivers refusing to take women to hospitals for abortions, women who were in physical pain. And the case of Tyra Hunter is the worst, a woman left to die on the side of the street untreated, because the assholes "ambulance attendants" refused to help, instead hurling insults and epithets at an injured and dying person.

No, he was "fired" for failing to follow military regulations.

If he can't follow Air Force policy, then he should be kicked out of the service, just like anyone else would be.

Awww, just short of the 20 years required for a lifetime retirement pension.....

Being a bigot has consequences.

From the article:

“I was relieved of my position because I do not agree with my commander’s position on gay marriage,” he said.

I call BS.

He was relieved because he refused to acknowledge that it was not within his authority to use his position to impose his sectarian religious views upon those under his command.

He refused to allow others not of his sectarian religion to hold life-views different from his own.

Please have mommy read the article to you in one-syllable words so that even YOU can understand. He was fired for failure to follow orders. Simple as that.

As R1 would say:'what a maroon'
.
If Sgt. Homophobe is afraid of gay people getting married (which does not affect him in any way; shape; or form whatsoever)......
.
......he likewise could refuse to aim his military rifle at an evangelical enemy and squeeze the trigger to save his own homophobic a$$......

.
Sgt. Homophobe is better suited for a National Park Job as Smokey the Bear's a$$wipe manager

He's just trying to goad posters into saying anything but something about the topic of the thread. It's his MO. Most experienced posters just leave him to twist and stink in the wind.

Your projecting your own ideas in what you want to believe.
"He was relieved because he refused to acknowledge that it was not within his authority to use his position to impose his sectarian religious views upon those under his command."

That's the simple truth.

Did he have any other reasons for failing to follow orders?

Hey, bright boy. 6th grade is not in High School!

You never answered my question, so here it is again: What did a GLBT person ever do to YOU, personally, to make YOU so hateful? No generalities, no brother's best friend's sister's cousin, 5 times removed. YOU.

You're being way too kind! I doubt this buffoon could pass a sixth grade test. I am surprised that he can find enough letters on a keyboard to make a word.

Stupid Dyke , you're showing your 6th grade education again. I never said 6th grade was high school. I said take it to a high school English teacher so she can explain the article to you. You're pathetic.
Wow such hatred that you feel compelled to spend your time putting out negative energy. What you may not realize is that you get back what you put out into the universe. It's ok to not understand us or disagree with whom we choose to love. The insults you spew out don't hurt us we have heard it all before. It only shows your lack of maturity and inability to accept others for who they are. I truly hope and pray that one day you will change your way of thinking. If not in the end YOU are the one that will have to answer to God for your hurtful words.

The lack of maturity and inability accept others goes both ways. I have no problem with the LGBT group but that does not mean I have to agree with their lifestyle.

Just as we don't have to agree with your lifestyle.

Neither has any place in the military.

Treat all service members equally and keep you personal opinions to yourself.

That's where the Sgt screwed up. He insisted on expressing his disapproval of gays & lesbians rather that treating them as equals.
