Counties Ask N.M. High Court To Decide Gay Marriage
New Mexico's 33 counties asked the state's highest court Thursday to decide whether gay marriage is legal in the state and to stop the spread of lawsuits that have forced some county officials to start issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

There has to be uniformity within the state one way or the other. You can't do this on a county by county basis.
And btw, I lived in New Mexico for awhile and it's a BEAUTIFUL state !

But because it WAS being done on a county by county basis, that has sped up the process of getting a uniform ruling from the Supreme Court; something they were averse to doing just a month ago.
See, that's how NOT doing things the right way can LEAD to things being done the right way.
