It seems that many modern-day christians have forgotten the words of the very one whom they claim to follow. According to Matthew, Jesus said: "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray [...] in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." (Matt. 6:5, 6 KJV)

Instead, modern-day christians seem to take it as a violation of their 'religious freedom' when they are not permitted by local sports rules to pray where everyone can see them! If you object to the rules, don't participate in the games! But above all, if you claim to follow Christ, then heed his words and keep your prayers private.

In this instance, at least the athlete had the good sense to acknowledge that the gesture originally purported to be a 'prayer' was something else altogether. But why couldn't his family have said so right away, rather than finding it necessary to lie about it at first?

Do you think that THIS set of facts will get the play that the disinformation did?
