What are they afraid of?

Being singled out?
Being forced to have the courage of their convictions in the light of day instead of like cockroaches who are only brave in the dark?
People finding out which of their neighbors is nice to their face but stabs them in the back?
People finding out who many public companies or owners of public companies supported bigotry?

Come on folks - you think you are so right - COME OUT! Don't be a cockroach.

The 1st Amendment guarantees the Right to Free Speech, especially Free political speech. Since, rightly or wrongly, the SCotUS has determined that campaign contributions are political speech, one must recognize that the 1st Amendment does not guarantee the secrecy of political speech.

I suspect that part of their reticence to shine light on their donors is that everyone would see how small their numbers are - thus giving the lie to the times they talk about being a "grass roots" movement. Who knows? Maybe their donor list is three names long: a Roman Catholic official, a Mormon official, and a Southern Baptist official.

And undoubtedly, the Roman Catholic is gay !

The best part of this story is that while they have been fighting for "special" treatment. We have overturned their win and now have marriage equality in Maine!

All the money they dumped here was wasted and now the icing on the cake would be to learn who those loser donors were.

I'm thinking Maine won't back down and eventually they will be required to reveal and will have again spent lots of money only to loose in the end. Anybody see a pattern emerging?

Hold your horses. Gay groups turned in donor lists to courts as well as the proper Government agencies during all this. Why should anti-gay groups not have to follow the same rules they insist gays and lesbians follow?

I'd wager that if a gay group were refusing to obey civil law you'd be outraged and calling for State Sanctions.

But then you also probably think that florist n Washington who refused service to a gay couple because of her relationship with Jesus didn't use religious discrimination as her reason did she?

The National Organization for Marriage donated about $1.9 million in the campaign.

Maine's campaign disclosure law requires groups that raise or spend more than $5,000 to influence elections to register and disclose donors.

It's not the gay agenda this time honey, it's the State of Maine (among others). This isn't the only case NOM is fighting over this. Several States are waiting for NOM to comply with their voting laws. It's rather funny watching NOM go on and on about activist judges while they shop the court systems of this country hoping to find one judge that will disregard State Law.

"...the way you guys attack"

Get off your high horse. These groups, with NOM right there in the forefront, whose sole purpose is to vilify gays and lesbians through whatever means they can find, are the true attackers. The attack me personally. Every word they speak, every pamphlet they write, every dollar they spend to try to sway elections against gays and lesbians, are an attack on me, and on thousands of others like me.

I would like to see them "own" their hatred, by explaining face to face to the parents of gay kids who have committed suicide, how their words and actions did not contribute to the death of that child.

not through your sense of entitlement I bet you don't!

the question was, what are the donors afraid of, and my response the very realistic and proven possibility of imminent DANGER to them and their families...

You're fighting to deny basic civil rights to millions of people in the name of hate.
A couple of people broke some windows.

You're seriously trying to claim those are basically the same level of action? Really?

Claiming ANY danger to ANYBODY from marriage equality is a lie. Claiming imminent danger is preposterous, claiming "proven" is to show you don't even care about pretending to tell the truth. There is no "proof" it's total fiction. Marriage equality will harm nobody in any way.

WRONG.

there is no basic civil right to marry, and if there is one, its based in the natural right to procreate and thus is inapplicable to gays..

you start with a position of being entitled and work backwards..its called BOOTSTRAPPING and its a silly tactic...

you hate society with your quest for what YOU WANT...
did that hurt you? no? same as you and your silly bigotry claims are for me...
