To the anti-gay college republican who said "A mom can't be a dad and a dad can't be a mom."; obviously has not met any gay people
.
Moms and dads are not limited to the sex of the physical body

And we already allow single parents to raise kids so what's the problem, right?

The other way to respond to people who say that a mother and father are required to raise a kid is this: ask them if they really think that no parent at all is better for a kid than to have a gay or lesbian parent who went through enormous effort in order to be allowed to raise a child.

In the United States (and presumably in other countries too) there is a huge problem with not nearly enough adoptive parents to take all the kids who need parents. In the USA every year there are thousands of kids who could have been adopted but who aren't, who "age out" of the foster care system. Kids who "age out" of they system often end up homeless, addicted, and in trouble with the law. Kids who get adopted end up succeeding just as frequently as kids who were raised by their biological parents.

So the question about whether a kid is better off with no parent at all rather than having a LGBT adoptive parent is not really hypothetical. There are real kids who would have no parents at all if they hadn't been adopted by LGBT parents, and thousands of kids who need parents and likely won't get them.
