Nov 19, 2012 Full story: HeraldNet 134

A lesbian mother has started an online petition drive urging the Port Angeles School District to prohibit politicking by teachers after an instructor wore a "No on 74" button in her daughter's eighth-grade classroom.

I was listening to some Republicans discussing the way forward after they just had a major rout in New Hampshire. They had exactly the Same attitude. "we need to,do a better job of messaging" was the constant refrain. I'm sure in their minds, they know they were right, but the moronic electorate just didn't grasp it. What I hear is that they need to lie better because people understood exactly what they want, and we are horrified.
Is there ANY way that we could start marketing that as a meme?

How is a teacher wearing an anti-Marriage Equality button different from the same teacher using diversity materials in her curriculum?
It's anti-equality. Also, it's a specific proposition.

No. This isn't a bond issue. Wanting to deny people equal rights and wanting to grant them equal rights are not just opposite sides of the issue. One is morally wrong, the other morally right. it's morally right to give people equal rights.

Lol , I must admit the wind is gone from my sail because the loss came out of nowhere, did not see it coming.
I have always enjoyed and felt comfortable with Morris's predictions and yes he has been off in the past but this time he predicted a landslide for Romney.
Oreilly was not convinced with Morris but Morris made perfect sense when he said that many Dems were not happy and would not turn out like before while republicans and independents would go for Romney.
"Dick Morris on Bill O'Reilly , Dick preditics Romney will win with a landslide!? "

In truth everyone I listen to was wrong and not just wrong but way off.
Dick Morris: "Prediction: Romney 325, Obama 213"
Glenn Beck: "321-217 victory for Romney in the electoral college."
Rush Limbaugh: "Everything -- Except the Polls -- Points to a Romney Landslide"
Michael Barone: "Romney Beats Obama, Handily"
George Will: Romney 321, Obama 217
Newsmax: "Expect a Mitt Romney Landslide"
Larry Kudlow: "I am now predicting a 330 vote electoral landslide."

Yes, I am ticked at them.
Should have listened to me.:)

Obviously, but the moral argument works both ways with a different set of premises. Both buttons, regardless of position, are both a form of political expression.

There is no legislation of morality, per se. On the other hand there is also no Law abridging the Freedom of speech. The SCOTUS, mostly through the progressive thought developments of our side, have extended political speech to include all manner of things, including "free expression", etc.

I think a rainbow button would be considered equivalent to the "safe schools" signs that appear on my class rooms. The rainbow is a sign of support for all, despite their differences.

A "Yes on 74" button would, of course, be prohibited because it refers to a specific political controversy. I understand that, in some circles, making schools safe and welcoming for all students is considered controversial. But that is not the case for the vast majority of residents in most localities.

Well, it's not the legislation I am talking about. I would oppose the teacher wearing a button with "Yes on" whatever the proposition was as well. But a rainbow button is standing for an ideal, equality.

But I believe an employer can require you to not wear certain things while at work.

Oh, geeze, stop the pity-party! No wonder you're so messed up. And then you become a socialist too? No help for you, dear. Sounds like you've spent too much of your life relying on others for your support and well-being and not enough effort taking on responsibility for YOURSELF. Typical of the mindset of those who voted for Obama - they want (and expect) to be taken care of... at other people's expense. Stop whining.

<quoted text>believe it or not i agree with you, but like the cross around her neck which is most likely there to as a student in her class i would have just stopped going to school. but realize i did stop attending school in 8th grade, for very different reasons, but hopefully you can see that for some they wouldn't say a word in protest to her.. they just won't attend.. the teacher then has effectively alienated and created an unwelcome environment to some.. not what she might have attended, i hope. i just know at that age i drifted in and out of so many lives and vise versa. anytime living somewhere became unwelcoming i would just leave... often slipping away quietly in the nite... even left an apartment one night with about 10 people sleeping where i had been staying. i'm sure they spent several days wondering where lilith had vanished to when they woke up and over the next several days. i bet they never dreamed i was three states away by then. so this teachers pride in her cause could create an unwelcoming situation. My mothers abuse on me related to my ruining her life or being a burden to her and as a runaway I was very sensitive to any situations where people expressed concern about my being an issue being there. I felt better walking alone on a street then staying with someone when that happened

So you don't think we should have police or firefighters, or judges, or lawmakers and enforcers of any sort, no post office. Well, at least we'd stop wasting money on this "war" on drugs canard. That would be nice, but I'm not big on closing down the jails and prisons. Of course all the homeless on the streets of Seattle would be annoying, there'd be nowhere to walk. Knee deep in bodies from the sick and dying as well. You'd be amazed at how many homeless are in Seattle, most you never see, because they're in shelters, out of sight, so people like you can walk to the Gucci store for another purse. Oh wait, that's called a "man" bag.

and Defamation.

Heterophobia is the force that causes you to create gaydays@disney or try to infiltrate the Boy Scouts. If gone untreated in society, combnined with yewery, one may find their country in economic shambles and waging wars in other regions against people that never harmed you in the first place.
