The Founding Fathers would be incredulous and disbelieving that we make laws now AGAINST "discrimination" (A word whose meaning has been perverted).

GREAT article Rick. Well done.

When I fist saw that the Senate Committee had passed ENDA I thought, "great news".

Now I know better. I'm almost relieved this has little chance of passing in the House.

What we really need to do is stop giving tax exemptions to religious organizations. Most religious groups are just big business enterprises in disguise and they're taking advantage of tax exemptions to line their pockets.

Our government is broke. It's time for the religious groups to pay their fair share.

Nope. And the courts would rule that taxing churches, and other religious institutions, is unconstitutional.

SCOTUS said: "The power to tax is the power to destroy."

Don't like that ? Then repeal the first Amendment.

Aint gonna happen.

Im all for that. My Church declined the tax extempt status and we are free to do what we want. For example we are free to endorse people running for office since we are not tax extempt.

In some countries, it aint. Particularly in many Muslim countries. And that also used to be not the case in many European countries as well, particularly when the RCC was s o powerful.

Well also in the US its like that.

Only under the Mongols was there no wars between Christians and Muslims. Other than that period of time, constant wars. Its an interesting perspective on peace.

There's nothing in the First Amendment that says religious institutions have a right to tax exempt status.

Chief Justice John Marshall said, "The power to tax is the power to destroy". Many Americans will say that their religion is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing in their life. A "wall of separation between church and state" MUST include the non-taxation of religious institutions.

By giving tax exemptions to religious groups, Congress IS violating the 1st Amendment. I thought REAL Libertarians understood that.

Look it's great you can cut and paste stuff out of context. Just as you did with the Bush Vs Gore decision.

As for the wall MUST include tax exemptions, one poster just pointed out to you that a Church can still function and pay taxes.

But you INSIST it has to have such an exemption. And that is just:

Are you saying that it's the Churches instead of Congress that are violating Amendment 1 now because they are tax exempt?

Make up your mind!
