I hope if this bill passes, someone will have the sense to open a business requiring all employees to sign a statement (in blood?) to abide by the laws of Satan. Non-fundie people would realize it is a joke but the Fundies could get a taste of their own medicine.

"....which would allow businesses to file civil cases to claim they have a legal right to not provide services to an individual or a group ...."

I would LOVE to hear what Jesus would have to say about that.... Somehow I doubt he'd be supportive.....

Once again, what we have here is an idiot that can only see things one direction--the one that favors him.

Why can't these fools ever think about the other side before they start this crap?? What makes them think that no one will claim "religious offense" and refuse to serve him and his family when they need something?? But that would be unimaginable to him because he's perfection personified. Who wouldn't love him in all his "christian" whiteness?? Disgusting.

Contrary to popular belief, the right for black people to sit at a lunch counter or sit down on the bus is only part of the reason discrimination in public accommodations is prohibited. It's because black people and Jews were DYING after being turned away from "White Only" or "Christian" hospitals that refused to help them.

That type of disgusting behaviour *should* be illegal. And it sure isn't a Christian value. Not among true Christians, anyway.

Kathy Griffin, in a recent concert, referred to Arizona as the nuttiest state, after Florida. I fear she may need to reassess. Arizona is fighting for the number one position. I hate to see what Florida does to keep Arizona as number two.

Following slightly on the first post, if this becomes law I cannot wait for the first business to test it by refusing to service (fundie) xstain customers due to the business owner's "religious" beliefs.

The fundies like to claim that their status as members of a Christian, proper, majority would automatically protect them from such an application of their bigoted law against them, but it would only take one such case as I envision to send them running to the courts to quash it.

And it would be hilarious.

This should be fun. The bill is clearly unconstitutional. Another Republican waste of time and money pandering to bigots.

Yarborough is a lawyer who was alive and well during the civil rights era; so he knows better. He is just grandstanding for votes
.
Apparently he is banking on the fact that with the passing of time; most voters don't know about the 50-year-old 1964 Federal Civil Rights Act that specifically and emphatically prohibits religious based discrimination nationwide; still in effect today

It is also interesting to note; the handwriting is on the wall and Arizona's republican politicians know it
.
Instead of trying to STOP gay marriage from reaching Arizona; they're seeking immunity from compliance once marriage equality becomes law

While I agree any such bill SHOULD be held as unconstitutional, we still haven't heard from the SCOTUS on this issue.

Hopefully the Elane Photography case makes it clear one way or the other. We should have a decision by June.

Also of significance, Arizona's public accommodation law doesn't cover sexual orientation. So businesses can currently discrimination against gays & lesbians.

The MAJORITY of the American people believe as I do. That's why for many years the Republicans have held the MAJORITY in the House Of Representatives, a MAJORITY of the seats in the 99 state legislature bodies, and a MAJORITY of the state Governor's mansions.

And Gay rights are paying a terrible price for that. You remind me of tropical fish who eat their own spawn.
