Hello. I'm not saying I disagree with you concerning issues about same sex marriage, the popes resignation, etc. Just not sure where you are getting your information. I feel honest reporting should be "that", honest reporting and not personal issues. It's important to trust what is being reported regardless of ones ideology. You cannot win a support group if they do not trust what you are writing.
The best to you from California. Looking forward to my visit to chiang mai and the wonderful Thai. people soon.

As much as I dislike him and disagree with him, he was not a Nazi.

To be a "Nazi" you had to join the "Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei" (abbreviated N.S.D.A.P. and whose English literal translation is the "National Socialist German Workers' Party").

Joseph Ratzinger was drafted into the Luftwaffe (Air Force) when he was 14 years old, and he was not a Nazi Party member.

Actually, only a very tiny percentage of officers and enlisted men in the Wehrmacht (the name of the German Armed Forces during World War II) were party members. And NO officer, nor enlisted person in the Kriegsmarine (the name of teh German Navy during World War II) was a Nazi Party member as naval regulations specifically prohibited ANY officer or enlisted personnel to be a member of any political party. Hence the oft-seen term "Nazi submarine" is a misnomer.

The Waffen SS was the military arm of teh Nazi Party, and all members were Nazi party members. However the Waffen SS was completely separate from the Wehrmacht and none of teh officers nor enlisted personnel were under Wehrmacht command.

While there were Waffen SS divisions equipped as any other German army (HEER) division, with tanks, artillery, and other heavy equipment, these divisions operated alongside teh regular army and were never part of it.

So calling Joseph Ratzinger a Nazi is simply not accurate. To say he was a Nazi is a lie.

And being openly gay, and a church-going Lutheran, I have no love for Joseph Ratzinger nor the Roman Catholic Church.

It was an Op-Ed piece, clearly labelled as such. Not a news story.
