Eddy County is so behind the times so this is no surprise. The main thing is that the state of New Mexico allows gays and lesbians to marry legally.
Gays from Carlsbad can be legally married in other towns and cities nearby and put money into those local economies. Carlsbad still has to recognize these marriages!

More like ignorance, but then again this is Carlsbad! We still have New Mexico! lol
Carlsbad still has to regognize Gay marriage, and there's nothing they can do about that! It's just that Carlsbad won't be gaining financially from these weddings. Their loss!:-)

Their choice. Agree or disagree with it you need to respect their right to make that decision. The irony will come when a group tries to legally force them into performing the ceremonies. That is when the question that should be asked is "Why would you want someone to perform your marriage that has to be forced to?"

This is along the same lines as:
Why would you make someone bake you a wedding cake if they have to be forced to?
Homosexuals are innately vindictive.

who do these judges think they are? They are so perfect without sin? Judge C will marry a man that cheats on his wife all the time? Or what about his crooked good for nothing brother that scams people out of their hard earned money? Who are you to judge gays? You took the oath now do your job....stop mixing church and state.

The real issue here is discrimination! These Eddy County judges are discriminating against gays and lesbians and this is wrong! The state of New Mexico allows gay marriage and if you have a problem with the laws of the state then move to a state that doesn't YET allow gay marriage! These judges are supposed to be for all the citizens of Carlsbad, and if that's a problem then perhaps they shouldn't be in the position at all

Once again, we have elected officials refusing to do their job. In the private sector you get fired for that. Vote nay on retention,

Are you saying the gays and lesbians are sinning? If so there are a lot of people that will agree with you. The judges should be commended for their actions.

I have several gay friends. But I also do not hate the judges for not preforming the ceremonies. Everyone has their own beliefs. The gay community wants everyone to respect their right to love who they want to love then the gay community also needs to respect the beliefs of Christians who don't believe in gay marriage. Everyone has their own sets of beliefs. The gays keep screaming about how their rights are being violated but they don't stop to think that in that same argument other peoples rights are being violated as well. Most Christians believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. That is their right to think that. Others believe marriage can be between two men or two women. That is their right. I am personally sick of hearing it! As a Christian I believe what I read in the Bible, marriage is between a man and a woman but I also believe that Thou Shall Not Judge. It is not up to me to decide whether its right or wrong. It is up to God.
I am sure this will bring out all the gays calling me a hater on them but that is far from the truth. Like I said, I have several friends that are gay, some that are even married to their partners. Good for them. I still am friends with them even though I don't agree with their decision.

Would you say the same about a doctor refusing to treat a gay person because homosexuality went against his Christian beliefs? These judges are elected officials and religious beliefs should not play part here! Separation of church and state! This is part of their job and they need to put their prejudice aside and do their jobs or move on! I'm not gay, but I have many gay friends who deserve the same right to marry as I have! All gays and lesbians deserve this right! Personally, I'm sick of hearing all the ignorant Christians trying to run people's lives here in America...a free nation!

Just like pharmacists can't be forced to dispense the morning after pill to women due to their personal beliefs, the judges are refusing to do ceremonies based on theirs. While I personally don't know if their job description includes performing marriages, they don't have to do things against their beliefs. If performing IS part, then they should have to or be voted out. But as one other person said, who would want someone officiating at this most special moment if they are FORCED to do so? This town is super conservative Christian. This decision shouldn't shock anyone.

Why would any gay couple want to marry in Eddy county anyway? That place is a joke in every other part of New mexico! Those judges are not too educated or bright, so why should this be surprising to anyone? Marry in another town and give your support to those towns that support your legal rights. Shop out of town in protest!

I totally 100 percent agree with you but I think also the gays should just go ahead and move out of Carlsbad so they're not really welcome here
