Antoine, I'm rooting for you and praying for you that God will give you strength and wisdom so that you can withstand the wiles of the devil, who will no doubt present himself as attractive young men and gays who will attack you for this choice. May God be with you and bless you richly with the wife and children you want.

Somebody needs to introduce him to the word 'bi-sexual'
.
That means he is attracted to both sexes
.
67% of the population of the planet is bi-sexually oriented

.
The remaining 33% of the planet's population is monosexual: Attracted to One Sex Only

Is this how religion makes it easy to dehumanize people?

Why, that's not a REAL person there, with their own mind, opinions and decisions. It's a wily devil, DISGUISED as a person, come to attack you!

How easy that must make it to disregard the dignity and personal sovereignty of anyone you disagree with.

It is not religion "dehumanizing" people. It is the forces of evil, conveniently called Satan. BTW, I've taken a lot from some people over years before reluctantly admitting they seem to be controlled by evil forces. But that doesn't mean I give up on the person. The person has made bad choices that have given over control of themselves to Satan. They need prayers for deliverance. In the meantime, one should be careful around people like that. They are dangerous.

Has he volunteered to have himself hooked up to a peter-meter and let a few folks test his innate sexual responses?

It's very simple to prove that he has changed orientation. Do you think he will be the very first to prove that he's really "renounced" his innate sexual orientation?

If you can talk about real human beings, who have lives and hopes of their own, and baselessly declare that they're NOT people, but actually demons or monsters in disguise out to getcha, then YES, that's dehumanizing, and YES, it's caused by religion.

Well, isn't that convenient. A little TOO convenient, allowing you to sidestep dealing with real problems, and simply ascribe them to ghosts and goblins.

"Evil" is just the name that we give to bad actions by people which cause others to suffer. There aren't any "forces" of evil. People make their own decisions based on their own volition. They aren't controlled by spooks getting into their brains. And if they aren't out to harm someone with malicious intent, then it isn't fair to call them "evil".

Maybe they're just jerks? Some people are.

This is a pretty wild accusation. What method did you use to confirm your suspicions? What tests did you conduct? Could I repeat your tests and arrive at the same results?
Chance wrote:

No, of course you shouldn't. Persistent kindness and compassion can reach people, even when they're determined to be unpleasant. But we only need to show people that we're trying to understand their point of view, and they may try to understand ours. It certainly doesn't mean they need an exorcism or something.
Chance wrote:

People make bad choices... that lead to bad consequences. No one is under some kind of external control. Everyone has their own motivations for what they do. They may be good motivations or bad, or they may be misguided. Someone may even be mentally ill. Remember, even the 9/11 hijackers thought they were doing their god's work.

What sort of things did these people do while "under control of Satan"? Did they try to take over the world? Did they slaughter hundreds of women and children? Did they poison a water supply? Burn down a school?

Or did they just give you a bad day? What tasks are too menial for Satan?
Chance wrote:

Does that ever work? For example, I'm gay, and atheist. Could you say prayers that would change me? If you started today, when should I expect to feel differently?

I don't mean to sound flip, but I have my doubts, to say the least. In 2011, Texas Governor Rick Perry called on religious citizens to pray for drought-ending rain. Instead, Texas got rampant wildfires. My partner prayed throughout his teen years not to be gay. Didn't work.
Chance wrote:

This is dangerous THINKING. It is superstitious, and leads to some really unfair and erroneous lines of thought. As I said, even good people can do bad things, believing that they're doing right, or even doing the will of their gods.

But to condemn someone as "evil", they need to be out to cause harm to someone. You can't just slap such a label on consenting adults, no matter how you may disapprove of their actions together. You can't just assume they're under supernatural control, dismissing their own human drives and desires. This dismisses their humanity, and gives you a worldview that does not consider the human condition.
