lol. Well I don't wish that on anyone but I do believe they deserve to be punished and made an example out of IF they are found guilty.

Kidnapping and assaulting a random person is bad enough. Doing so to a person because of their gender, orientation, religious preferences, political beliefs or any other identifiable trait is fully and completely unacceptable.
I'm not a huge fan of punishment but this pair should be punished to the fullest extent possible. Life is hard enough for the GLBTQ community without added pressures such as this.

They couldn't convict these guys on a state level so they lower the expectation of certainty and press federal charges. Double jeopardy anyone?

The federal law is there when states and counties won't enforce their state hate crime law. The police can be biased too not just the perpetrator. This is checks and balances.

They are also there when someone gets acquitted by a jury and they don't like the outcome as I have shown you before. They are dirty rotten people. The police aren't the ones who bring the charges

No, but I believe the police are the first ones to make charges against someone and they can recommend hate crime charges to the court if I'm not mistaken. A lot of time it's the police who invest and find something to be a hate crime, not the court. The court is presented with evidence by the police.

They never went to trial in Harlan, Harlan stepped aside and let federal take there charges first the state will go after the pre meditated first degree attempted murder after federal goes after felony kidnapping and the hate crime thats why there no double jepoardy there all different charges the state came into this because the ass wholes in Harlan who are elected to office were to worried about keeping the mijority of the voters happy while federal prosecutors and judges r appointed so politics don't decide the outcome! Also why has it not been mentioned that the 2 girls involved both went to court this week as well and both plead quilty and will be sentenced sometime this summer.

I understand how they dance around double jeopardy but I just don't see it that way. They are being tried twice for the same crime

Being tried twice? They have never been tried at all. Double Jeopardy means you can not be tried for the same crime twice In a COURT OF LAW.

It's clear some of you know nothing about double jeoperdy.. These men have not been tried & convicted or acquitted. Honest Able once someone has been acquitted the 'feds' can not come back & charge again. Thats DOUBLE JEOPERDY.
These men committed a FEDERAL CRIME ON FEDERAL PROPERTY. Why wouldn't the FED'S step in?

No disrespect but your not making any sense. This is a FEDERAL CRIME that was committed on FEDERAL PROPERTY.
Even if this wasn't a federal ''hate crime'' any crime that is committed on federal property makes it federal.

It is clear that you have no idea what you are talking about. Here is a case for you. These boys were acquitted and the feds tried then again. We have already been through this but you must have missed it

I don'tknow all of the facts on this, but I wonder if the Federal Government stepped in due to the bias the jury may have had? That part of the state is not very homosexual friendly is it?

I was locked up with one of those boys & I have read all his paperwork, motions & everyones statements. Them boys are innocent of the hate crime, sure assault but nothing more. Believe me when I say the gay man just wanted national attention & a movie deal. He asked for it messing with a drunk, no traps, no slander. The feds wanted that first conviction.
