Read the whole olympic charter? Fat chance of that.

The only thing they read was the bottom line - figuratively and literally.

How's this for an idea? Make what's expected the act of rebellion. Start sending out the message to all those participating in Sochi, if you oppose this sad law and believe in the rights of all of us to be seen and treated as equals, smile and waive at the crowd as you go in during the opening ceremony. If you're okay with what is going on there, don't. Because if you come in smiling and waving to the crowd, you will only be supporting those acting out in that way.

If someone really wants to send a strong message with no human casualties, find an isolated forest in Germany or Poland where a natural gas pipeline from Russia to Europe runs and blow it up!

I don't think boycotting the Olympics does all that much. As I have said before, this time it isn't the United States who is enabling an evil power; it is the EU. The US has remarkably few imports from Russia, so cannot really send an economic message. How come I don't read anything about European gays calling for their countries to stop buying Russian fuel?

The IOC has a long history of homophobia. There is no reason to expect them to stand behind equality now. It's not a lack of courage at IOC: It's a presence of bigotry.
