No. People like yourself accepting the fact that human beings are human beings will bring us further into the 21st century. Your intolerance and homophobia is the problem, not gays and lesbians.

I was a bartender at at West Virginia's oldest gay bar in 1979 and 1980, and I had the BEST time of my life there. Huntington was VERY gay. :)

That will require homophobes dying off demographically, as they are.

Oh, no. That means I probably know you. I was performing at the Hurricane Dinner Theatre during those years and visited Huntington's oldest gay bar several times. I got to know many of the staff, who were fascinated at my coming into a bar and not drinking. I only had soda. That surprised them for some reason. Suddenly the world has gotten a lot smaller.

Another thing, article related this time:

Just how many gay people are there for her to be catering to in a town of 1,700 people? Doesn't sound like the best business plan to me.

More asinine commentary. Just curious: Isn't there a 'T' missing from the start of the last word in your ID?

In 1984, when I was 14, my family took a driving trip around the US. In Alabama, we stopped for gas, and I went out to the restrooms out back. There were 3. Men, Women, and Coloreds.

My guess was that this was just a "hold-over" from olden days, and that it just hadn't been corrected out of some bizarre historical connection. Surely it wasn't enforced (?). But it was creepy to see.

The article says she opened in the same location some years ago, operated it for a time, and then sold it to someone else. Now she wants to re-open in the same location. Evidently they must have enough patrons to make a go of it. I suppose even though it is a "gay bar", it must cater to a wider variety of people, or they probably could not make a profit.

I read a piece on this case and because of where it's located people come to the bar from all around the area. It's a Friday/Saturday night business.

I went to a wedding in Texas, a "dry" county. We had to smuggle the booze in. Do the authoritarians never tire of believing they know better than we do how we should live our lives?

Not too far from me a couple Lesbian friends opened up a gay bar in a very small town. The place was packed. I met people from Sacramento, San Francisco, the Wine country etc.

If you build it they will come. LOL

A friend of mine opened up a porno theater in another local town with a population of less than 1,000 and when an article in the San Francisco Chronicle declared SF the city with the most porno per population something like 1 per every 50 thousand or something, someone wrote a letter saying that his local town had one per 1,000 people and was therefore the porn capital.

Yes, I saw that. But I'll admit it confused me. I'm not sure how that few people could even support a café that caters to Everyone. I wonder if that population count is wrong. It also seems strange that with a population that small they would be able to muster a separate board to approve--or disapprove--this stuff. And these were other businesspeople. How many business can that tiny population support???

You seem to not take into consideration the area around that small town, as well as the other small towns within driving range. And, you don't take into consideration that not only gays will avail themselves of the business. Not all people, even in Mississippi, hate us you know. And again, she did it before, and thinks she can do it again. Good luck to her.

Nope, it's you. If there were no gays and lesbians I wouldn't be intolerant and homophobic.
You are definitely the problem. If you spent more time enjoying your life instead of trying to force people to accept you, you'd be much happier. Try minding your own business, it could do wonders for you.

So, you just hate it when people manage their own lives, if they live in a way that you wouldn't? That's a good reason to hate people?

I would say there's nothing wrong with a little human acceptance, everyone wants it to some degree. People aren't MONSTERS just because they seek acceptance.

But I would also say that no one can ever force an individual to accept anything. You will always be free to accept or reject whatever you want. We are only trying to "force" acceptance from our mutual government, a body that purports to be impartial and equitable to all citizens. If the government "accepts" something, or legally recognizes it, you are still free NOT to.

However, you DO have to accept that you share this nation (and planet) with other people, and they may be different from you, or live their lives differently than you would. But if they aren't committing crimes, then you really SHOULD find a way to live with them peaceably, without making it more difficult for them to pursue happiness, freedom and justice.
